Description IMPORTANT:
For the love of God, plz check out my original work! There isn't much (yet), but at least I worked on my actual drawings for more than 5 minutes!

Don Bluth was (and still is) one of the best animators, character designers and animation directors in the history of ever.

Okay, 4 of his films in the 90's were bad. He actually wanted his credit removed from one of them, he hated the final result so much.

But...

Banjo The Woodpile Cat
The Secret of N.I.M.H.
An American Tail
The Land Before Time
All Dogs Go To Heaven
Anastasia
Titan AE

... were great works of 4®†. Even Bartok The Magnificent was decent.

P.S. Since you really like this piece of crap so much, I updated it a little bit.

You can love parts of it. But on the whole... Don himself said it is his least favorite movie he worked on.

Yeah Thumbalina, A Troll in Central Park, and Pebble and the Penguin were shit. However Bluth can shit, and piss in a can and I'll watch that over any of the garbage Dreamworks releases. Just look at Madagascar 3. >.>

GokuMartin In reply to GGundamSamurai [2012-09-04 19:59:04 +0000 UTC]

I agree. It pisses me off that Dreamworks (the shit factory) and Pixar (the most overrated animation studio ever) are what dominate the animation industry today.

In fact, other than "The Princess and the Frog" can you think of a traditionally-animated movie that was released in theaters, and that WASN'T based on a TV show?

I miss Bluth. I miss "The Secret of Nimh", "An American Tail" and "The Land Before Time". Even the garbage he used to do in the 90s and early 2000s (and, to be fair, the quality of those later movies wasn't his fault, 20th Century Fox and Universal had him by the balls) is superior to whatever overrated mass-commercialized product Pixar shits out.

Even his "Mary" music is a far superior adaptation of "Rapunzel" than Disney's "Tangled".

Why can't one the last great masters of traditional animation come back? Why is Western traditional animation confined to television?

Don Bluth, you are needed again...

Let me guess: you are also dismissing the works of Ralph Bakshi as "crap" just because of "The Lord of the Rings" and "Cool World", right?

Don Bluth was one of the greatest animators of the 80s it's a shame his work went downhill in the 90s. I can't say that I have ever seen Anastasia or Titan AE however.

Rock-A-Doodle could've been a classic if it was executed better.

Bigger budget live action scenes, a better child actor, and better villain songs would've worked wonders for the movie. Where did Bluth say he was ashamed of Rock-A-Doodle?

which works from the 90's are you referring to exactly? And which one did he want his name removed from?
as far as I know the only time he did that was when he was asked for advice on a work just so they could add his name to make it popular.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KlarkKentThe3rd In reply to Chicaraai [2011-08-15 00:29:09 +0000 UTC]

A list of Bluth's bad films:

-Rock-a-Doodle (creator personally ashamed)
-Thumbellina
-A Troll in Central Park (Gary Goldman dislikes that one a lot)
-Pebble and teh Penguin (asked foe his credit to be removed and left the production)

Anastasia, despite all its criticism, was a pleasant production; on story meetings Don had his say and a lot of his ideas ended up in the final product.

P.S. I spent, like, 3 minutes making this lousy poster. Why would ppl not look at my original work?

Honestly I was looking up don on here to see if on the off chance he had an account because I used to know him and didn't get a chance to look at your art before I had to do something though i'm going to now.

Also I happen to love Anastasia and everything about it heh.... I liked a troll in central park too because of the flowers and gardening magic (but I don't still watch it unlike Anastasia besides that ok your right. I didn't even really think about them.

"I love the tone that's in your laugh
Gasping for an extra breath
Waiting for the time to pass
I believe in days ahead
Don't spend another night alone
Cross and wishing you were dead

Mary, you should'nt let 'em make you mad
You hold the best you can
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'm always gonna live to be your man

I've had it easy now you see
When I'm down your'e always there
Standing by to comfort me
Someday we'll go round the world
I'll make the journey so sublime
I know you're not a travelln' girl

Mary, you should'nt let 'em make you mad
You hold the best you can
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'm always gonna live to be your man

Cause I'd give everything I have
Forget all the things that bring me joy
If you could have one day
Pure and simple happiness
Until that moment comes
I'll be here where I've always been
I'm gonna be your friend
Until the day I die

Mary, you should'nt let 'em make you mad
You hold the best you can
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'm always gonna live to be your man"

I'm sorry, but every time I hear this song, I think of Don Bluth. For me, this is the official Don Bluth theme song. When I listen to this, I look at clips and posters of Don Bluth movies.

I read the whole song as a metaphor for Don's career ("Mary" not being a person, but someone who represents sucess. Thus, it's about Don trying and failing to get sucess, to get his "Mary", so to speak).

My opinion on why his material was going so stale is that he had a LOT of pressure on him with Disney releasing such huge successes. Seriously, look at the competition: Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc. I don't blame him.

Reason why Bluth wanted his credit removed from the movie was the studio heads were making him do this or do that.
Nobody tells Don Bluth what to do!

Nihm, Before time and American Tail were three of my top movies as a kid.

Sure, Bluth might have made a few bad movies in later years but to me he will always be the man who gave me some of the best moments of animation any kid could ever want.
