Description While at Comic Con, I finally bought the Fall 1152 book of Mouse Guard. Simple story, great art, and fun world to get sucked into.

It makes the same part of me that loves Redwall very happy, so I spontaneously doodled this after finishing the comic.

And the water brush made this very fun to color.

lol This makes me feel all giddy inside. A very awesome pic. It's a sad thing that Redwall doesn't get a whole lot of fan art. Not like other books/shows.

Fantastic! I have a short comic idea like Mouse Guard. Would you be interested in working on it?

TeiOuja [2009-06-03 11:41:16 +0000 UTC]

I'd imagine their relationship to kinda be like this:

Gonff: "Brave sir martin ran away!"
Martin: "NO!"
Gonff: "Bravely ran away, away."
Martin "Gonff, stop. Now."

I must admit I was a little disappointed in the story and dialogue, but the book was a good read, and the art was just amazing. I love the detail put into the settings, and the characters were grabbing. Defintiely proud to have it on my shelf.

I love your own fuzzy renditions.

I actually like the story (nothing too epic or pretentious, but still cool and sucks me into the world quite effectively... helps that the visual storytelling is top-notch) but I can agree on the dialogue - it's a little too scripted-feeling at times. And the typeface somehow doesn't help. But it's true - the art is fantastic enough to forgive the flaws.

I see you've found mouseguard. An alright comic. Little simplistic but it works.

Kobb In reply to inuzaka [2008-08-10 02:11:54 +0000 UTC]

I think that it's deceptively simple. It actually goes pretty deep, but it's not obvious or on-the-surface at all.

I *love* Mouse Guard. For weeks afterwards, I couldn't draw mice without them being in the MG style. Ha ha. I even made my own MG characters. Needless to say, I'm hooked on the series. Can't wait to read "Winter."

I like Gonff's hat. I wish I had a hat like that.

Kobb In reply to bohemian-folly [2008-08-13 02:54:40 +0000 UTC]

I can't wait for "Winter" either. And I totally could see myself making my own characters too... who knows what could happen in future sketch adventures?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bohemian-folly In reply to Kobb [2008-08-13 12:08:28 +0000 UTC]

True. I love sketch adventures.

You can see my characters here: [link] and [link] I've got colored versions of these floating around *somewhere*.

I'll be waiting for the library to get the next book -- too cheap to buy a copy for myself.

Kobb In reply to bohemian-folly [2008-08-14 04:11:47 +0000 UTC]

Those are fun... man, now I REALLY have to play with Mouse Guard characters.

Heh, you know I'll be waiting for the paperback, but it shall be mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bohemian-folly In reply to Kobb [2008-08-14 04:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I was torn between getting the hardback "Fall" or the paperback one with the extra pictures in it. Ended up getting neither.

I'm looking for an MG roleplay to join, because I'm too lazy to do a fanfic for my characters. Haha.

Traxer [2008-08-07 05:16:43 +0000 UTC]

That comic was completely worth the read, for both the simple (yet oddly deep) story and the fantastically encompassing art. A world to get lost in on every page.

That being said, mixing that book with Redwall memories is a stroke of genius. I toast to you, miss. You got them both spot on. (I've missed Gonff...) Perfect with the watercolors.

Kobb In reply to Traxer [2008-08-07 21:24:12 +0000 UTC]

My Redwall drawings have always been woefully lacking in Gonff, especially given how awesome he is. And the little doodle turned out too perfect not to do anything with it.

It's true, Mouse Guard's actual plot is so simple, yet it has little details, little observations in there that not only enrich the world just by implying the existence of depth, but actually do add a lot of depth and value to the story itself. Looking at it superficially you might think there's not much to it, but there had to be a reason that my first reaction to finishing Fall was to flip back to page 1 and start again. That doesn't happen often.
