Description
The last of the 2nd Generation UESPA starships and the first of the 3rd Generation was the Crossfield class (NCC-257 to NCC-280). This technological-transitional starship from pure Terran designed and built ships to coalition designed and built craft marked the early beginnings of what a decade later would be the Federation (2160). The Crossfield class was built with the express purpose of finding the mysterious benefactors of the Orion Pirates that were plaguing the Terran colonies, shipping, and commerce. When UESPA first encountered the Orions in 2102, their ships were armed with Mason projectors, particle beam weapons, and x-ray laser torpedoes (a missile that acts as a drone, which self-destructs as it fires a very power x-ray laser) they had acquired from various alien nations they traded with. Their ships had modest shielding and fast, but not very powerful (in terms of power output), warp engines. Within nine-years the Orion Pirates gained new warp engines of an unknown design (clearly not theirs) which provided them with faster warp speeds and more power output. This caused UESPA to respond with more heavily armed and armored ships (Bonaventure, and Patton classes). Over the next forty-years the Orion ships gained plasma-weapons and disruptors, as well as improved deflector shields and sensor camouflage systems they simply could not have developed given the balkanized nature of their society. UESPA knew there was another power behind the rise in the technology the Orion Pirate clan fleets were gaining, they also knew the slow but steady unification of the Orion fleets meant another power was promising a profitable deal that required them to unify. The Andorians and Tellarites were suffering the same problems as the Terrans so in 2149 the three of them created a technological-exchange program that resulted in UESPA acquiring Phased-Lasers and Spatial Torpedo launchers. The Vulcans were reluctant to provide any technological weaponry upgrades to the technological-coalition, but did provide new sensor and shield systems. With these new systems and weapons, the UESPA created a ship to seek out and find the source of the Orion Pirates new technology and new found desire to unify their clan-fleets. The new ship was the Crossfield class.
