Description
When Bonaventure NCC-005 first entered the Rigel system in 2102, it encountered Orion pirates at one of the Rigellian trading space ports and was crippled and captured. Initially the United Earth Government accused the Rigellians of the attack, but Vulcan diplomats negotiated an understanding of the situation and cooled off the rising tensions. The incident however motivated the United Earth Space Probe Agency to design and build their first military warship, the Pollux class Armed Schooner. This ships purpose was to act as an exploration craft and warship allowing it to survey and explore areas of space that were hazardous with potential hostiles. It was the first twin-engine Warp-nacelle starship in the UESPA and the first warp-capable ship armed with Paticle Beam weapons and fusion torpedoes.Related content

Hello:
Star Trek meets classic sci-fi . I can see the need for armed starships because the Trek-verse can be quite dangerous, but this design looks quite realistic that even looks like a design that could be done for humanity in the near future

Hi Chiletrek,
That was the original intent of the Space Flight Chronology book, to make Star Trek more of a science fiction franchise than Space Opera (or a Space Western to be more precise) due to the high-SF nature of Star Trek The Motion Picture. Unlike Star Trek TV and movies that came after it--or even before it--ST:TMP was pure science fiction, and not a Space Opera much like the episode of ST:TOS (Space Seed) that the movie is based on. The 1960s show was a mixture of some episodes being Sci-Fi, some Space Opera, and a few Space Fantasy. Thus, when the Space Flight Chronology Book was published it focused on a more Sci-Fi look and background for Star Trek then did the Star Trek Encyclopedia that came a decade later.

Hello:
I have to admit how awesome is that how different sources try to complete this franchise even more without forgetting there is a lot of science in this science fiction story.

Hi Chiletrek,
That is the big problem with STD.
It is being written by people that confuse Superhero-Space-Fantasy like Guardians of the Galaxy with Science Fiction.
Star Trek was always supposed to be a science fiction franchise (or at the very least Space Opera), making it just another Space Fantasy show is killing it.

Hello:
More problems even?
I don't mind a little bit of fantasy in franchises like Star Trek because it can add a bit of extra flavour when it's done the right way (like DS9). But since I have not watched STD yet I cannot really make a comment to compare notes.

Hi Chiletrek,
STD is bad....really bad.
In the first episodes alone it is bad. You have a woman who is barely 40-kilograms taking on a Klingon warrior who as to be at least 140-kilograms and she wins.
Utter stupidity.
