Description Built during the midst of the Romulan-War, the Daedalus class of ships became the mainstay of the Federation starfleet in their efforts to repel the Romulan aggressors.  It was the direct replacement of the older Mann Class of cruisers that had been the backbone of the fledgling Federation fleet during the first years of the war.  The Mann Class was armed with particle-accelerators and standard laser-beam emitters which were equal to the Romulan plasma-bolt emitters and spatial torpedoes of the 2155-2160 War.  The Daedalus was the first in a new generation of Federation starships whose emphasis was on both space exploration and combat as the demands of the War include trying to determine the boundaries of the Romulan Star Empire's area of space they controlled.  At the time, the phased-laser beam emitters were brand new and thus this class was fitted with these weapons up until the introduction of Phasers nearly a century (2240 or 83-years) later.  Many Daedalus class ships were on the border of Federation space as part of the "Deep-Space" exploration operations when the Klingon Empire began its expansion into Federation territory in the early 2200s.  Needless to say, the Daedalus class did not fair well against the heavily armed, and armored Klingon warships.

EDIT:
Whoops.
My bad.
I confused the date the Daedalus comes out with the Baton Rouge.  The Daedalus is the "Prototype Battle Cruiser" on page 142-143 of the Space Flight Chronology book.  I had to push the Romulan war up to the 2150s since in the SFC book it takes place in the late 2090s early 2100s and that is too far back from the ST:TOS episode "Balance of Terror".

Indeed.
However, a "Daedalus" looking ship does appear in the Space Flight Chronology book (which I believe you told me you have) as a Battle Cruiser prototype on pages 142-143.
I used that to design this ship.

Actually I'm working on a complicated D4.
I may post the "raw" model I have now of it, but I haven't done the complex UV-mapping/Textures for it yet.

Hello:

Your more industrial-like style fits wonderfully for the Daedalus. It is great that you managed to make it look good (since I never really liked the design ).

Hi Chiletrek,

Thank you.
I hated the original Daedalus class design, so I based mine on multiple different interpretations of the design by other artists who re-imagined it.
I should note that as part of my project to create a totally separate but complementary Star Trek universe, I have added Phased Lasers to this design and changed most of my pre-Klingon War designs to also use them.  It is also what makes the Constitution class in my ST:CU so unique since that class uses both the old weapons (Phased-lasers and Spatial Torps) and the new weapons (phasers and photons).

Hello:

 You are welcome .

I have seen some of those interpretations, like the recent one from the "Pacific 201" fan-film project. But I am not sure if that ship is considered canon or official so I have no idea if I would have to build my own version of it.

My custom Trek-verse kinda follows Axanar, as you may have realized, so the weaponry I am using are like the turrets seen in both the first JJ-movie and in Axanar itself. The thing is, I have not yet decided how would the weaponry go for Constitution class-era ships.

Hi Chiletrek,

Daedalus is official, but is no longer "Canon" as far I know (maybe someone here can correct me on that).

Axanar takes place some time after the Daedalus class was retired from service.

Hello:

Memory Alpha was not very clear on that, but the wiki makes my browser slow so I had to close it. So it seems I should not be made to build it, mwahahaha... *ahum*.

I figured-out the Daedalus was in service for aroud the year 2196 (likely retired by those years or by early 2200's), while "Prelude to Axanar" goes for the year 2245 .

Hi Chiletrek,

Memory Alpha has become a mess lately due to STD messing up the timeline.
I rarely use it anymore.

There is a lot of different info on when Daedalus was supposed to have launched.
I used the blueprints of the evolution of the Constitution class as my guide.

Hello:

That's true too, and how it akes my browser slow even with ad-block .

I think I willl still not-build it until I get extremely bored ... which it might not be anytime soon since I reimagined an Species 8472 bioship for the game mod and I am kinda wanting to do Stargate stuff.

My Adblocker crashes Firefox often.

I look forward to your Axanar designs.

Hello:

Good to know I am not the only one then .

Well, you may have to wait for a bit since I am still in an Species 8472 mood . Not to mention that one of my mentors is making me want to do Stargate stuff again in the near future (he was the one that rescued my Klingon D6... untextured though).
