Ok I have to ask because this is bugging me. You and JJ's art coloring style is VERY simular. Are you using a greyscale shade for the ponys? and then just changing the layer to multiple or something?

Yes, that is how the shading was done here and in most of my other pictures.
There is one (or several) layers with the colors, above that the outlines either opaque or transparent and/or set on multiply or linear burn (multiply is softer and linear burn creates a stronger contrast).
The shading layer(s) is between both, sometimes set as a clipping mask on the colors to prevent painting over the color areas. It is set to either multiply or linear burn as well.
For the shading I usually use a blue or purple tinted bright gray. Sometimes a brighter and a darker one, but usually I just use the transparency of the brush to control the darkness.

My first thought was writing a dark comedic fanfic about Fluttershy getting turned into a tree and Fluttershy's beaver friends going for help where they stumble into Pinkie Pie dressed as a beaver (I dunno, because Pinkie Pie!). Pinkie thinks they need help chopping down the fluttertree (and Pinkie doesn't know the tree is Flutters) and so proceeds in felling Fluttershy.
My friends: "So basically it's about a beaver gnawing wood?" *snickers*
