Description latest painting, just in time for xmas... or winter solstice if you prefer... even with a bit of correction in Corel the colors still don't translate precisely... the blue isn't so blue and there's actually more of the pale, pale yellow through the center top of the painting. oh well, from what I've heard, according to the philosophy of my alma mater if the photo doesn't do the painting justice you've been successful...
yay me...!!!

and really that's just scratching the surface, so to speak. I once mixed used motor oil with polyurethane clear coat... took about two months to dry. not necessarily my most successful piece but always worthwhile to experiment with materials.

Your old mater was probably correct. So many painting are actually 'improved' by being photographed or displayed on TV that it is the original which, sadly, often disappoints...
