Just a small banner I made for myself (and others) importing HG/SS to use in forums. Feel free!Sorry if my comments below offend you, I have nothing against people who wait for it to come out! I just have no patience xD
I already pre-ordered HeartGold as soon as I could from PlayAsia! I can't wait...
Made this because I also made one for when I imported DP ([link] ), and it brings me a lot of nostalgia. We had a club and talked about the new things we found all the time, so it was a really exciting time.
The GTS was really fun too - It was really a unique experience playing a game and feeling so connected to people around the world all playing at the same pace.
Of course it wont be the same now with emulators and roms, so I doubt we'll have an actual club...Seriously anyone who plans on just playing the rom, I will hate you. I've seen hundreds of people freely admiting they will play the rom and it makes me sick...
People like me are working hard and earning money so we can import it and it takes a while for it to arrive, so have some ***ing respect. (I never swear so this is how passionate I am about this)
I will only forgive people who play roms after its been out for a long time.

I've never played a rom, and never will since I have no idea about them and whatnot XD'
Anyways, I have a friend who imported Pearl, but it was all in Japanese (He can speak/read it,so he had no problems with it XD) but if I imported it, would there be a way to change the language to English >3If you don't feel like explaining you can just throw me a link to some sort of FAQ page if you know one XD;;

I usually just pirate games to my DS flashcart, but I'm going to pre-order Soul Silver when it comes to America.
I can't wait to play it, but I don't like playing games with dialogue I can't read.
I am probably going to grab a ROM of Heart Gold though. No way am i going to buy two of the near-identical game.

No, I'm going to wait to buy the US release. I try to restrain myself from getting japanese games, because I get frustrated that I can't read anything. I like my Pokeymans in good ol English.
Even if the bought version didn't come with a cool figure or the Pokemon Walker, I would still buy it legally, just because it's a pokemon game.

Ah okay hehe sorry about snapping at you like that. There were just all these forums where 90% of the people just unshamedly said theyd get the rom for free instead of importing, and it really bothered me.
I'll end up with ho-oh figure which wasnt the best one but oh well XP the pokewalker will especially be interesting in japanese...

I was so close to preordering the japanese Soul Silver earlier today, but I figured since I'm gonna import the US Heart Gold when it comes out, might as well save money and not buy the "same game twice". I actually did this with Brawl, importing the US game and playing it with a Freeloader but once a system update blocked it I bought an EU copy. So yeah, I'll be playtesting the ROM, watching videos on YouTube, anything to quench my GSC thirst. It's not like I had the money to spare to buy two games when I'm already saving up for NSMBWii and Mario Galaxy 2 so I can buy them on launch.
Nintendo and GameFreak sure know how to make people excited even with just remakes.

I tend to import the japanese one, and then get the second version when it comes out here. By then its a completely different experience as I have learnt a lot more and my drive is all refreshed after not having played for a while.

I see whatcha mean. I first played the japanese Emerald and Platinum both on emulators and still bought the game when it came out in english. It's just that I'm not very willing to pay for a game when I can't understand a bit of the dialogue. The game might lose some charm it would've had in the form of dialogue. But in the end, I'll still buy it, even if just to get to truly experience the game the way it was intended and to support the developer and publisher for the hard work they did.

Oh right yeah of course, I mean I studied japanese at college for a couple of years so I can get around well enough in the games.
Importing ends up costing just as much as it would to buy it here, so thats a plus too.
And also like you said, I like having the original version of how it was meant to be played and how the creators envisioned it too.
When I got english diamond I was surprised at how trivial most of the speech is anyway xD

I don't really want to learn a fourth language (well third since I haven't had to use one in such a while I've entirely forgotten everything) so I'm passing on the japanese. Sure it would be nice to read it and all, but it'd probably be more work than it's worth, if I wanted to learn it just to play games early. So I'm pretty comfortable just stumbling around when I'm playing an unfamiliar RPG in japanese. PokΓ©mon games aren't hard though as long as the game doesn't introduce an entirely new generation. I can tell most moves by what level they are learned, the type icon colour and Base Power / PP. Good thing the items have menu icons too, really makes it that much easier.
Most excited about the new features, of course. Playing a game with updated graphics on a newer handheld is fine and all, but if there wasn't anything that wasn't in the originals, I wouldn't be nearly as excited. It seems they're making people less dependent of the GBA games considering how the new DSi lacks a GBA port and they're givin' us Groudon and Kyogre. So I doubt there will be any Pal Park-like features in the remakes. But that leaves more game card space for some other things, I hope the remakes will just add to the ton of fun that was GSC.

Bah, cheaters. ROMs are for losers. This coming from a person who used to use an Action Replay, but that's a different story. xD
However, importing just seems to be a waste of nonexistent (for me) money--In the remakes, there's a LOT of new stuff, and I'd feel rather...lost if I got a Japanese version of the game, considering I can't read Japanese. 
Also, I really do like what Nintendo's doing with the Pokemon remakes (at least with FRLG), so I wouldn't mind using up any hard-earned cash. And GSC+the Epic win Platinum graphics=EPIC SUCESSx10.

That's fine hehe, I live in the UK too but what I do is import it from japan, and then I buy the other version when it comes out here in english. By then Im all refreshed to start again anyway xD

I must admit, I tried a ROM of Platinum, but it was so crappy that I deleted it and waited the extra 3 days for Platinum to be realesed in the U.S.
I wish I could join you but, 1- I don't have the money for importing right now, and 2- I love reading the text in RPGs, but I only know english

You can also rom in other methods by using virtual media to trick a console or hendheld into thinking that its playin g a proper disc or cartridge, you usually get a bit of a higher quality to. But yea roming can be good but not for more recent games. I personally only rom games that have been out a few years and might be a bit harder to find. That way I know if its worth spending hours trying to find a single game

Actually, if you use ROMs with a DS flashcart like CycloDS or an R4, the games are perfectly identical to the bought counterparts.
I don't know what kind of quality playing DS ROMs on a computer will get you, though.
also it only takes about 1 minute to find any sort of ROM.

Well the best way to pirate them is to rent a game and put it on your sd card off of the disc, then complain the game didn't work XD

Nah, I can just download an ISO of the wii game and burn it to a dvdr and use the wii Backuploader.
It worked before my wii bricked
