Thats how I thought as well, my logic was; if it's in water, it's a turtle, if it's on land, it's a tortoise. But now that I know that they can live anywhere, or look identical, it`s kinda hard to tell em apart sometimes lol.

So cute. I love box turtles. Actually a female I believe. So she was probably crossing to lay her eggs or find a mate.
Good perspective of the turtle and the horizon, she appears like the queen of her turtly domain.
