Description This is a scene that I have looked at over and over and over again throughout my life. Many times I've thought this place would be neat to walk around and explore. Finally, I took the time to check it out and attempt to capture the mood during the sunset.

Hope you enjoy!

Is your hometown somewhere in the west?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sa-ena In reply to kylewright [2008-11-12 22:46:35 +0000 UTC]

It's about as far west as you can get before being in the west. More South than anything else.

But we have a lot of hills and neglected barns, and in the summers, around 6 and 7, the light shines on the grass just like that.

I love how you captured the closest barn in the photo. It's incredibly alluring, despite the darkness (or maybe because of it). Anyway, great shot. I really enjoy your work.

great mood, i love it, the only thing i am not 100% comfortable with though is the lack of verticalness of the building on the right... (i may have read too much A.Adams books lately )

I don't mean to be a pain, but could you explain that a little more...I'm not sure I understand.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hockenberry In reply to kylewright [2008-11-13 09:29:09 +0000 UTC]

the left wall of the building on the right dont look vertical but slightly leaning on the right (the effect is accentuated by the fact that the horizon is at 90Β° with this wall) , *maybe* the sight would look more balanced (to me at least) if it was rotated a few degrees counterclockwise ?!

hope this makes more sense than my first comment

Kyle, I have to know, as Cloak42 wants to know - is this shot straight from the camera or did you do anything special???

I know that my camera is not capable of taking shots as dynamic as this - you must either have very expensive equipment or are very good at photoshop. Please tell me!

I love it!

kylewright In reply to solidblu [2008-11-04 14:59:49 +0000 UTC]

Hey! I responded to Cloak42's comment and here's a copy of what I wrote: "I used two exposures...the sky is at f/5.6, 1/320 s, ISO 100, and 24 mm. The foreground is at f/5.6, 1/15 s, ISO 100, and 24 mm. The time is also not correct b/c I took the picture at sunset. If only the camera can capture the dynamic lighting like our eyes! The lens I use is a 24mm-70mm, which has a UV filter on it. I hope this helps!"

And yes, you are right-I'm using some expensive equipment and I do have a significant amount of experience with Photoshop. However, the expensive equipment only provides a large amount of megapixels and picture size. Other than that, I really haven't noticed much of a difference between the canon 1D and the canon 30D or 10D. Even though I have a lot of experience with Photoshop, I still just try to spend no more than 5 to 10 minutes on a picture. This is probably b/c I have a short attention span and a lack of patience. Just recently I've started playing around with HDR pictures to attempt to capture the dynamic lighting that the camera fails to capture. The pictures I've included in my gallery are the pictures I either do for myself for fun or they are examples of pictures I've taken to learn and improve my abilities and techniques. The best way to learn for me is to get out and play. I know I there are a ton better photographers out there, but hopefully I can find my own "look" and get better and better as time goes on.

Kyle, is this shot exactly as the EXIF data says it is, or is it an HDR rendering? It's amazingly captured. What lens do you use, what filters?

Nice work! Yet another for my favorites...
