Description Western Oklahoma - 5/17/2010

For those that lived in Oklahoma City or heard about or saw the amount of hail dumped on the city, this is a panoramic picture of the notorious storm itself as it lumbers across the Oklahoma plains. This picture was taken in between Hydro and Hinton, Oklahoma, looking east over a vibrant green wheat field toward the developing storm cluster. I've been really looking forward to getting pictures of the cloud structures all year and especially look forward to getting more from underneath the beasts. You can see the developing cell base east of the rainbow and under the slopping face of the overall cloud structure. This in particular was another developing thunderstorm connected to the larger storm, which I will post pictures of later that show it as it is dying. It's been neat to see how fast these develop and how fast they fall apart, making the ones that live a longer life really nasty. I feel blessed to have gotten this picture with the sun at my back, beautiful cloud structure, and a low lying rainbow over green fields.

The hail storm is amazing to see video of and in some places produced so much hail that it looked like it had snowed! This storm will inevitably cost Oklahoman's hundreds of millions of dollars to repair homes, vehicles, and property.

EPIC! Congrats on this. Whenever I see a distant storm, I look for those low (seemingly huge) rainbows.
Good to hear Chris taught you some forecasting! You probably know more than I do now lol

The detail in this picture is far beyond anything I've ever seen...I don't know how you do it, man, but it sure does make me want to get out and storm chase.
