your color scheme is really wonderful... you know, only a few people can pull of playing will colors like you ^^ and here i'm trying to get to know colors more Q_Q i'm pretty much bland when it comes to colors. if i try to do the same thing you do it makes my characters look like some kind of avatar with blue skin Q.Q then again everyone has their own style, ne? ^^

whats the point in starting at 3000x4000 and then resizing it too 700x933 when you are done 0.o?

Because if it's at such a large canvas size you have the option to use it for print, however if you draw on the small canvas then you can't make prints. Β Most draw on a large canvas and
resize a version for the internet.

Good question I got used to it, for me it's better to paint on a big canvas then on the original size, sometimes it can look cleaner when it's re-sized sometimes not ^-^

Zeolch In reply to KyouKaraa [2013-12-28 22:31:34 +0000 UTC]
I have noticed a lot of other ppl who also start with a huge canvas but then reduces it to something smaller when they are done.Β Since all the pro is doing it, i figured that resizing it will make the image look better but i dont really see a difference. That is why i am a bit curious. I know you start out big but why not just leave it big when you, yourself, are done?

Some brushes work better on large scale (at least in Photoshop), and you can work more detailed--it's kinda hard to explain, but on the original site, you've got all the space that you need, and when you reduce its size, you have smooth transitions and thin lines that can be harder to archive otherwise. Also, if your working for games, you might notice that you need several sizes of an image (e.g. an eyes close-up) and scaling something up is going to reduce the quality (while scaling something down and sharpening it [as digital art tends to become a bit blurry]).
It's probably less about the end result, but the process which becomes easier.
Oh, it also makes it easier if you're going to print it one day. Concerning you're question why one scales it down--uploading a 10kx10k image on the internet has several downsides. (It takes forever to download and people can easily steal it / use it for their own stuff, thus most people only upload the original if they want it to be printed out or if it's stock.) Sometimes it also looks nicer because of the crispness.
However, it's also a matter of workflow, as your working document tends to become slower when increasing it's size. (A lot of people sketch on a small document and size it up when refining it.)

Hmm well that's how most people I know do it too, I first started to draw on the original size but messed kind of up.
On a bigger canvas you have more space and can use "more" brushes, also what I guess is the most importnt point is that you are able to use more colors, maybe this sound without any sense, but I really don't know how to explain it- I'm sorry T^T

I guess leaving it bigger takes up too much memory on the computer or something, so reducing its size makes the file smaller. Or maybe reducing it makes it somehow better looking. I dunno but thanks anyways
π: 0 β©: 1
KyouKaraa In reply to Zeolch [2013-12-28 22:42:35 +0000 UTC]
It takes much more memory yes, but the file itself stays the size it was before (when I'm doing it). After I finished the drawing I always am saving it as a Png though jpg would be fine too but Png can be higher quality *slap me if I'm wrong*
after saving it I open up Photoshop or anything like it is fine too and then I'm resizing the drawing.
