Description
Hello everyone!
I finally decided to update my Android fan character, Catherine Evergreen, with a couple of slight features (skin color, hair do, rank, and background story). I'm sorry I haven't drawn her in ages but I've been so busy with college and I went through a brief depression over character creation and realized that none of the things I previously wrote made any sense to Star Trek. So I tried to go through new sources of inspiration and tutorials on creating characters. I am still a bit paranoid about the term Mary Sue so I decided to do a Q&A right below the character info to answer any questions for any misunderstandings.

Brief biography:
In the 2340's Catherine Evergreen was created by cyberneticist, Victoria Evergreen, as an attempt to create a daughter of her own since she and her husband were unable to bear children. As a result of her creation she created another sibling for Cathy named Emily. She was programmed with an emotion chip but is unable to turn it off because her creator wanted her to be more human like. During her "childhood" her father would take her to his doctor's office to show her his medical tools and his interactions with his patients. As a result she became interested in studying in the medical field. Her father would tell her of his dreams of wanting to work as a medical officer in Star Fleet but his parents never gave him the chance to pursue his dreams as a point to encourage her to pursue her dreams. Besides being interested in studying medicine she was interested in singing because her creator would introduce her to opera singing. At age 13, when her father died from an unknown cause she vowed to pursue her father's dream to become a Star Fleet medical officer. However, in society Androids were not looked as "sentient" beings but only to be viewed as tools and machines without thoughts and feelings. Because of this she hardly intereacted with any humans because she was afraid that they would reject for who she is. In the past she's been referred to as a machine, a calculator, or a walking talking doll by her peers in which she hates being called. As a result she enrolled into Star Fleet impersonating a human while trying to control her Android like tendencies (not detaching her arms, not eating around people because she only eats small portions, not appear overly smart) at the age of 16.
After graduating from StarFleet she became an Ensign and was transferred to the USS Repulse. As a medical officer she would interact with her patients and other coworkers when she was needed but when she had her breaks she tried to avoid social contact as much as possible so that her Android tendencies wouldn't show but this has lead to some misunderstandings about her with her coworkers such as perceiving her as being rude and stuck-up. After 2-3 years of being an Ensign she became a Lieutenant when she was transferred from the U.S.S Repulse to the Enterprise-D. She was overwhelmed by being in a Galaxy class starship she thought it would be more difficult to hide her Android tendencies that it was bound to happen. One day while walking on her way to Sick Bay a giant space blob that was harming the Enterprise tried to capture her. Out of fear she tried to detach her arm from the monster without thinking twice if there was anyone around watching until Lt.Commander Data appeared just in time to stun the monster with his phaser. He was confused and yet thought it was fascinating that there was another Android on the ship. At first she doesn't trust him because she was afraid that he would report her to Star Fleet for lying about her identity since he is a senior officer. If he did report her then she would not be able to fullfil her father's dream. Eventually, as he started to get to know her better they both become friends. As a result of her friendship with him she starts to develop confidence in herself to interact in social situations.
Hobbies: tea parties, singing on the holodeck, playing any musical instrument, ballroom dancing, reading, playing on the holodeck, spending time with Data and Spot, and writing poetry.

1. Why did you make her an Android instead of another species from Star Trek?
Because I noticed that in Star Trek:TNG there were hardly any Androids in the series so I thought it would be interesting if the series would have exposed more Android characters just like in Star Trek:TOS besides the Soong-Type Androids in TNG. The only difference is that she has an emotion chip (in which she cannot turn-off) and that she's a medical officer.
2. Why a pet skunk, skunks aren't pets?
Believe it or not there are people who own pet skunks in certain states of the U.S where it's legal and in the UK. Yes, the ones I'm talking about are domesticated skunks. There's even videos of pet skunks on youtube. Since it's about half the size of a cat it's a reasonable size pet unlike owning a big humongous wild life animal.
3. Is your fan character a self-insert?
Nope she's not.
4. Do you have any proof that Androids were not viewed as sentient beings in Star Trek:TNG?
Based from what I've seen in the episodes of TNG I've noticed that there are a few characters such as Lt.Commander Hobson, Dr.Pulaski, Bruce Maddox, and the Star Fleet Admiral in the episode, "The Offspring" have viewed Lt.Commander Data (Soong Type Android) as not being capable of being sentient and is just viewed as a machine. However, the only characters who have changed their attitude towards Data are Pulaski, Maddox, and the Star Fleet Admiral.
5. Do you pair her up with Data?
Yes, I do but as I explained in the biography they both start of as FRIENDS before they get into a serious relationship. I want their relationship to develop and not make it an instant love kind of thing. In their serious relationship it wouldn't just be all kissing and happy moments because there's more to a relationship than just that. In a relationship there's ups and downs which makes it realistic and relatable. No I wouldn't make Data act OOC because he would still be himself. The only reasons I paired her with Data because in the episodes of TNG he mentions that someday he would like to get married or be in a serious relationship with someone (Data's Day episode). Brent Spiner, the actor who played Data, has expressed that Data deserved a babe in his life which is mentioned on his Twitter and in interviews.
6. Let me get this straight but did you create your fan character just to only have her as a love interest to Data?
No that's not the only reason for her existence! I want her to contribute towards the medical field in Star Trek and have more exposure to Android characters.

Very cute! Lovely character.
If you ever feel like writing something that doesn't fit into Star Trek, I encourage you to branch out of fanfiction. Whatever it takes to always write from your heart!

My take on your revision of Lt. Evergreen is simple. You made her more believable here by limiting her capabilities (some people give their OCs strange superpowers that make them less believable) and putting her on a ship besides the Enterprise-D.
The FAQ list is a good move, in my opinion.

Thank you for the compliment I tried to make her realistic as much as possible despite that she's an Android. I noticed that not all Ensigns are assigned to the Enterprise-D after graduating from Star Fleet. I'm glad you found the FAQ section to be relatable. I figured I added one just in case someone misunderstands my intentions with my Android character. I wanted to add more questions to the list but I didn't want to make it too long for anyone to get discouraged from reading it.

Thanks for the compliment Nope she's not like me at all and if she is I think the only thing she has is just my interest in opera singing and skunks
I would like to read your stories of Odo if you don't mind posting them on here
I've recently watched Season 1 of DS9 and I really liked the shows diversity of alien species and political themes. Odo is definitely my favorite character from the series but Data is still my 1# favorite Star Trek character.

I'm so glad you like the pet skunk idea I thought it would be interesting if there could a fictional character with a pet skunk instead of the usual cat and dog pet.

Does she work on a spaceship of some kind? A skunk might pollute their air supply.

Yes, my Android character works in a spaceship but don't worry her pet skunks hardly sprays only if frightened or startled. My fan character already created a concoction so that the air supply doesn't get affected by the skunk spray

Thanks for the compliment I think the hard part was rewriting her background story but it was worth the struggle especially trying to avoid cliche themes and not make her a sore thumb

I can tell that you've worked really hard on making her more original. I think it's interesting how she chose to hide her android identity because of discrimination.

I was inspired by the Android rights issue in TNG. I wanted her to not only have an issue that related with Star Trek but to have that issue as a tool for character development and not just to have it there just so the readers can "automatically" feel for her. As I was going through my brief depression I started to reflect on your advice about not making her related to the Soongs and to give her more personality than just giving her one trait and I want to thank you I apologize I took your advice too personal back then. Now as I'm reading her previous background story I just think she was a ridiculous character because of the cliche themes

She's not a Mary-Sue at all, she's a very detailed and lovely character! And I think this is your best drawing of her yet! She has such a sweet face.

I'm glad you don't think she's a Mary Sue. I tried to avoid Mary Sue territory as much as possible. When I was going through my brief depression over character creation and saw your Scotty and Orin drawings it inspired me to get off the wagon and revive Cathy again and I want to thank you
When I drew Cathy I was inspired by Victorian porcelain dolls but with a more human twist to it. She has doll like facial features but at the same time she looks so human. I'm glad you liked my revised picture of Cathy

Aw, that's great that I inspired you! That makes me feel special! And yeah, I had a lot of the same fears about Orin at first. Don't worry.
That porcelain doll is very pretty! And I love how you have a lot of Victorian influences in your work.

I think it's wonderful that you get your inspiration from music. Do you get your inspiration from a particular singer or band? I think the only musical component that inspired me was Sarah Brightman since my character sings opera However, I have an Android OC who is purely inspired by the singer Josh Groban

Most of my inspiration comes from Steven Curtis Chapman's work. I also like MercyMe, disney and TobyMac, so...i get inspiration from many bands and artists.
