Description
so here he is, my version of the real Loki Laufeyjarson! what do you think about him?he is quite wild and fierce there, I’ve decided to draw him getting ready for the Ragnarök, just after being freed from his chains.
the sword he is holding is Lævateinn, that he forged himself with runes and he has scars from the time his lips were sewed together.
his hair is red as it should be, and the general colors have to remind of fire, as he is the god of fire, other than the god of mischief and lies.
hope you'll like my mythverse!Loki then~
______
IMPORTANT
this is MY interpretation of Norse Mythology, and even if I'm trying to stick as much as I can to the Edda, I DO NOT WISH FOR IT TO BE A FAITHFUL DEPICTION!
so if you feel offended because the hair color of a god is not the one you always imagined it to be, because the relationship between two divine beings is slightly different than the one you find in myths or things like that PLEASE KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF.
still I'm open to civil interactions with people willing to show me different versions of the myths I know or willing to share their personal views on some passages of the Edda or on the imaginary surrounding some deities, every mature person is more than welcomed to discuss with me on those matters.

Excelent work,
I must say, that there is no description of Loki, even in myth. The only things it is said us that he was very handsome, and charming... and with a silver tongue.
Actually I imagine him kind of like that, but thinking that he was a foreigner in æsir reign, he should be different to all blonds and blue eyes, so... you may not be wrong, let me say.
Redhaired is a good choice.
I am in a group of neo pagans (recently), and a lot of us could agree with you... I still have doubts with the hair and stuck between red, brown or black... but definitely dark.
I loved your interpretetion ♥

Im thrilled to see something other than Marvel fan art when it comes to mythology. Finally, someone who has their own imagination that they draw from.

marvel is a great way to get interested in the subject, but in the end is even better to tackle it your way and imagine your own versions, isn't it?

Even though I don't shout; "This is the real Loki!", I still love your version of him. I guess it's because I don't personally believe that Loki is the God of Fire, or in that case a god of anything.
I like the idea that because Loki and Odin are blood-brothers, Loki doesn't have to suffer any real consequence when he has tricked someone or has been up to no good. And because his actions never has any severe consequences, Loki has become a freeloader among the gods in Asgard. As a side note I should probably also say that I don't believe that Odin and Loki are brothers by birth, but something they became later. It doesn't stop me from loving the idea that they are actually blood-related.
F*CK! I went too far off topic. I guess what I really want to say is: I love your picture! And I absolutely adore those vicious-looking nails on Loki. And I also have to thank you, for I have never heard of the sword Lævateinn, before I saw this picture

I don't remember if I found it while reading Prose or Poetic Edda, I have a big brick with everything ever translated in Italian squished into by theme, not by chronological or publishing order, so to dig up the sources of where the fuck did I got that from gets tricky... the author of the brick was not really good at organizing her work xD
but thank you!

ahahah well, I don't mind the Avengers actor because he do look like the comic book's Loki, but yeah, he has nothing to do with the Norse one.

the movie one is supposed to be the comic book one, that never much had anything to do with the true legit Loki, so I get where the "wtf" feeling may come from xD

Ever since Avengers, I've had my own personal Loki in my head. Although he says he finds the Hiddleston's form pleasing (because it has brought him so many new followers), this is closer to how he "really" looks, you know, if he's not actually shape-shifting into something else. :-D

He looks awesome I love that you gave him scars on his lips. I saw on another deviantart of Loki, where it was said that while Loki is considered the god of fire it is actually never mentioned he is? I wouldn't know, I'm not that well-versed with the eddas and whatnot
Red clothes always work, anyways!

I first heard of Loki as a fire entity when I started meeting up with Norse myth folk outside Scandinavia.
I guess they mix Loki and Lodur(who gave people the glow of life) and then throw in the story of the Lokabrenna as an example (The star Sirius, which Loki placed on the winter sky to keep everyone from freezing too much, but also makes the summers too hot). And then his face have been found among blacksmiths, like the Snaptun-stone.
And his name resembles Logi (fire)... Though the only other name that we know is Loki's, Lopt, means air.
When the air shimmers over roads and fields on very hot days, we say that: 'Loki takes his goats grassing'. (Old Dansih proverb)
Maybe Loki is not a fire entity but air/hot wind. And air is connected to fire.
But Fire fits Loki, so I go with the flow

I've been doing a lot of research as of late, and I've discovered the same things about Loki. Personally, I don't think of Lopt and Lodur as different entities, but as aspects of the same deity. This is common in many mythologies, including the ancient Egyptian pantheon, which I've also studied.
As for hot air... please excuse my unsubstantiated personal gnosis on this subject, but I have observed an interesting relationship between Loki's "hot air" and Thor's thunder. See, for a really, really good storm to brew up, there has to be a lot of heat. It's almost as if Thor comes to put out the fire...

Snigepippi In reply to broken-feathers [2012-07-09 16:52:12 +0000 UTC]
Or it could explain why Loki and Thor always travel together, you need the hot air for a good storm and you need the storm to bring the hot air.
It's nice to meet people who do some research, and want to talk about various interpretations and explanations (I've lately met too many who told me their variations was the only right one )

I like you picture. It's very alive and wild
There's something a little skewed about his right eye.
The hands and feet are very nicely done!
Hmm, I should go back to that hair style again, it looks very nice the way you've done it
I also like your IMPORTANT note
I might steal it and use it as my signature or something.
I also love to hear about new new myths and interpretations. But I can't abide people telling me that theirs is the correct version: 'IS SO AND SO' Especially when they don't have any references other than their own interpretations.

ahahahha I'm honored of it!
I absolutely detest when people decide theirs is the right version... no honey, the edda is like the bible, if it's written there so it's HOW IT IS, and you can make your own version for the sake of fiction and having fun, like I'm doing, but it's not the TRUE one.

Snigepippi In reply to LadyNorthstar [2012-04-23 05:52:49 +0000 UTC]
I don't think the Eddas are like the bible, too much is left out and too much is left to interpretation.
So there can be a lot of different ways to retell the stories. Thank the gods for that.
But, if it isn't explicit in Edda or Saga no one can't tell me that their interpretation is the right one.

He doesn't fight in Ragnarok, since both side (the Venir and AEsir) try to kill him at some points in the stories he decides to stay on the side line and watch it play out. But Heimdall notices and knows that Loki would have let his guard down so Heimdall move off from the war traps Loki and ties him to a great bolder with his son on top of him to drop venom into his mouth. And every time venom falls into his mouth it causes Loki so much pain that he makes the earth movie, aka the Legend of how the Earthquakes started.

you're mixing up different legends: the second part is how Loki got captured when he refuses to cry for Baldr, Vanir and Aesir fought long before the very built of Asgard's walls, and during Ragnarok Loki marches to Asgard together with Surtr to destroy the gods and get ultimately killed by Heimdall that behead him. The current version of Loki is pretty cute. Of course, he's still in the preteen years, and has a certain air of innocence in his features.
He's just not innocent in his nature, is all. LOL! This kid has a talent for trouble. Even if he doesn't go looking for it, or making it, it still FINDS him!
He's like Harry Potter with jacked up powers, and a complete disregard for what others think of him.
I definitely like this picture, as well as all of your other stuff.
