HAPPY BIRTHDAY, !!! You're such of an absolute sweetheart and I'm still so incredibly thankful to have you as a friend, please keep it up and always be happy!
Anyway, I'd like to think of this as almost just a remake of last year's gift for Anna [link] plus improved anatomy, a tail that won't snap off, and much better composition and depth, hahah. Horizon lines and vanishing points, man! And giant Manta Rays. Because there are never enough of those.
Anyway, I fought with this a lot and I still have a LOT of things I'm not pleased with about this piece (failed washes, wider range of colors, overworking pretty much everything...), b-but in the end it looks alright scanned in so I'm just gonna leave it at that. Sorry guys for always apologizing. u_u I am kinda proud of the composition/depth though, I feel like I'm finally starting to learn how to draw three-dimensionally. c:
I was actually really inspired by Daisuke Igarashi's art book, and I'm working on a new project now that's (mainly) set under the ocean, so, expect to see more ocean-themed stuff from me, heh.
Aeden belongs to ~Hamahakkii . Winsor & Newton Watercolors and white gel pen on Utrecht Rough Press 300gsm paper, 8 hours.

The great anatomy of the character aside, everything- the coloring the ripples of the light on everything, the sea creatures, the light from above, everything- is literally BREATHTAKING. You did such a great job.

wowowow, you go girl! The improvement I'm seeing is utterly fantastic! The depth is definitely something I noticed right away. I adore the way the light plays off the mantas, and it definitely feels like the scene is underwater. And yeah, I understand that you think there's a lot that needs fixing, but you should be proud of how far you've come in half a year!

Hah, I hear you. 's one of the pitfalls of working digital for me--it's so easy to fix things that it feeds my inner OCD, and when I switch to traditional EVERYTHING must be EXACTLY RIGHT.

The underwater setting is absolutely mesmerizing and very very well drawn! The lightrays are great as well as the water surface but the light on the manta rays and Aeden ^0^
Though Aeden himself is easily the greatest! >w< His hair and the horns look so very detailed how big was the canvas size? x3 Ohhhhh and his expression, I think I'm melting Q/////Q *touches his face* His face is perfect xD Ohhh and his nails and the tail annnd the piercings (?) on his back, this is just AMAZING! ^0^

One of my favorite things about this is your ability to represent the markings on the skin separated from the reflection/highlights/shadows of the water. That's a really hard thing to do, especially with traditional media. So cool!
