I made this for sakuracon 2008, sorry for the delay
I dont think anyone really realised the attention to detail that went into this, the jumpsuit is patterned exactly after the model from the game, all the seams, ageing, tears etc. are identical.
I also embroidered the apperture logos on the 2 shirts (worn by [link] and [link] )

They're actually the ends of some old skis, I wrote a tutorial about how everything here was made if you'd like more detail [link] And yeah they were a PAIN to walk in, I was basically on tip toes the whole time, and couldn't bend my legs at all. I was sore for a week after, but it was totally worth it.

Wonderful costume xD
I'm making my own this year for Halloween and need some advice- mainly, how the hell does one make the heel springs stay attached to the leg?

they are on a sort of harness which is duct taped to my legs underneath the jumpsuit, not completely comfortable, but they stayed on really well. if you want more details, I made a tutorial on this costume here [link] if you have any questions that aren't covered there feel free to message me ^_^

Alright then, I'm crossing velcro off my list and just grabbing rolls of white and blue duct tape xD (I'm going to attempt to kill two birds with one stone and make the attachments out of duct tape...)

Thats amazing. love the detail you put into the costume! the aging and wear nad tear doesnt show very well but the fact that its there means you werent lying and you actually put effort into this. thats all that matters in the long run: EFFORT. way to go. if you can, send me a tutorial for the costume and gun + braces (basicall ythe entire thing) too bad im not a girl though.... i might look a bit silly in it but i guess i can make a male version.

I'm a huge Portal fan and I must say, this has to be probably the best Chell cosplay I've ever seen

What I did for the leg braces was just hacked off the tips of some perticularly curved skiis from a local junk shop, and extedned that with craft foam, supported with sheet metal and duct tape. the knee joints are some little door hinges which gives a little mobility, but not enough so my legs weren't sore afterward!

I must say that I think your close attention to detail made this awesome! I have seen so many pics of people who dress up for these things and they only slightly resemble who they are dressing as. Isn't the whole point of something like this TO pay attention to detail? I applaud you, awesome work!

Gotta give you major props: I've seen quite a few Chell (may have spelled it wrong; whoops) cosplayers before, and quite a few who had rather detailed costumes, but none of them actually did the leg-brace-things. Nicely done, there.

the gun is mainly plumbing, just a big hunk of pvc. the white parts are polystyrene coated in paper mache, coated in fiberglass resin, coated in mod podge >_< and they glow through the magic of jell-o (not kidding) the leg prices are actually the tips of old skiis, which are duct taped to my legs under the jumpsuit. crazyness.
