I'm curious as to the reason the buckle is always on the horse's left. Does it have to do with tradition, or is it simply to make using the buckle easier?

I think it has more to do with the traditions of doing everything on the horse's left side. Halter buckles are on the left, so are most throatlatch buckles, etc. If the girth/belly band is undone it is undone on the left side as well. Also if you were to handle the breast strap/martingale area you'd notice that if the buckle was on the right the martingale would be in front of the snap (and upside down!), but again, you could design it the other way, but they're all built to be set up for the left side.

You're welcome! And curious, do you think I should share this over on FA as well?
