Description The Stone aliens recognize four distinct genders: the typical male, typical female, the freemartin, and the Geld/monk.

While at first these genders were viewed as flukes by human scientists it was later revealed that these "flukes", which occurred at a high percentage in the Stone population, were purely natural and these extra genders had a natural and neccessary purpose within the Stone community.

The Freemartin is the second variation of the typical female Stone (which I will upload at a later point).

Stones exhibit a high percentage of twinning (almost always fraternal, identical are exceedingly rare), up to 30 percent of births are fraternal twins.

In cases of fraternal twins of different gender, the female fetus may recieve Testosterone from her male twin (the male is uneffected by her estrogen).

The result is a female with features found in the male. She is infertile as a result, but in no shape useless.

The Freemartin is more muscular and taller in build and has a temporal glad, like those found only in breeding males. As a result, she goes into musth much like the males, and has a higher percentage of Testosterone. Her cheek spikes and nostrils are larger, as seen in males. Her tail remains long and feminine.

Behaviorly, the female acts like a guardian to her community. Like males, around puberty she'll leave the community, but live on the outskirts. In prehistoric times, her aggressive behavior would keep away predators and she'd act like a messenger between the males and females. For reasons unknown so far, she has more powerful senses than either males or females.

In modern time, the freemartin is a welcomed addition to law enforcement, both that of Stone and Human.

I love this concept.  I love this species, but then, I always loved ankylosauridae

I like that you have a freemartin. You've got a fascinating character there.

The anatomy on this is...beautiful. I think its one of your best, if not The Best.

Even the stance in which you portray her lends to the description of the Freemartins. Very large and in charge. I'm sensing a strong vibe of independence and sturdy character.

And coloring on this is amazing. I love the subtle and almost dappled-like affect of your color transitions on different parts of the body. I think the earthy colors lend to her sturdy character, yet using lighter tones helps to give a feminine feel.
I hope to see more soon.

I'm taking this for my favorites, lol. *steal*

quite an interesting caste. I'd be interested in the genetics of these critters and what mechanisms support gender differentiation

Thanks

The plan so far is chromosomes set up the base gender, while the hormones they recieve in the womb set up what particular male or female they'll be. A majority of the population is breeders. The "gelds" or males that normally do not breed make up about twenty percent of the male population, with freemartins the rarest, making up around 10 percent of the female population.

Hormones do have tendency of affecting their behavior morely heavily than it does human behaviors, even though the Stones are just as intelligent as humans.

a good an succinct explanation! it reminds me a lot of termites. they are very hormone-driven, except that the queen controls the hormones.

these guys seem like lots of fun, though I'll bet the non-breeders have no use for libido
