A gorgeous structure and I like the lighter palette that you've used here ~ very nice colours. I also really like those adorable little teardrop shapes hanging off the main spiral.

I do think the bottom right part of the spiral is a little lost on that background, though ~ it might have helped if that part of the ground had been a wee bit darker, perhaps, to add some contrast and bring out the edge details of that spiral centre.
(I'm just sticking my rarely exercised critique-ing neck out here, with a suggestion that you might find helpful (or not).)

Despite this niggle this is still a wonderful and very attractive image. Great work!

Thanks for the critique! What's funny is that I thought the same thing so I added a lighter underlying spiral structure to the main shape to solve the problem. I didn't try to change or move around the background dark areas but that would have done the job...probably better.

Aha... that's an interesting idea about a lighter underlying spiral, I like the lateral thinking and will have to remember that one!

Good to hear your take on the process anyway, I should have known you would have given that some considerable thought, you're not one to just dash off images without lots of tweaking.

I've used the idea of underlying spirals a few times to bring more interest to an area or to echo a shape. 'Organic Edge' is a good example of what I mean. [link] The background spiral isn't immediately noticeable but if it weren't there, I think the image would lose something. IMHO.
