I just realized I never added this piece to dA. I made this about 5 months ago or so...

It is about 22X16X16 inches

2 separate pieces blown and engraved... There are a couple other pieces in this design in the works as well.

Woooooow! Excellent! How did you get the honeycomb-type texture?

It's done with a diamond-tipped engraving tool. Each one is grooved out by hand. A long and tedious, yet worthwhile process! Glad you like! Thanks!

Do you sketch your concepts for your glass pieces? Or do you do them spontaneously? I noticed you don't have any sketches of things relating to your glass pieces. That that I saw anyway.

I do very rough sketches for my glass objects. Mostly it's just to go through steps, and decide upon shapes. The thing about working with glass is that you really have to listen to the material sometimes. So you can't always make the glass do what you want it to do... So I try not to get too tied to any specific design, because once I'm making the piece, it's all subject to change. A lot of times, the piece will come to me while I'm working. Sometimes I have no idea what I'm going to be making until I'm already making it. (Aside from a color scheme).

There are times when you have to be a bit more precise, and work the glass to fit a particular design, but I try to avoid those types of designs if possible. Though, they can be very rewarding as well sometimes!

Thanks Sir. And yup! Same piece... And I think the same stand too... I thought I had finished the stand by the time you were there... But maybe not?!

Thanks a bunch! I get the colors like that by using a technique called encalmo. Basically, it is sticking multiple bubbles together, each of a different color. This creates "Bands" of colors. I then change the central point of the piece which makes the bands more linear. And finally, I open up the bubble to create more abstract shapes.
