Description Click [link] to see the detail view

This is the FULL view of another piece from my "Brushstrokes" series. It's a 5 part incalmo switch axis piece with engraving as well. This piece was a lot of playing around with different engraving patterns and trying to make this thing stand up steadily! Not my most balanced piece ever...
About 5 hours hot shop time, solo-blown and about 4-6 hours of engraving.

Around 14" tall.

Thank you for responding back! I've had no idea how to find your submissions and your name and I practically gave up... til now!

Awesome, now I get to favorite this and watch your stuff.

I understand what you mean, but you can always fix that by fixing it somewhere permanent maybe, your choice of course. Or something along the lines of that.

I really like the shape of this one - the long curving top makes me think of some sort of long-necked bird.. like a swan! The colors are very nice too.

this piece is beautiful, i love the graceful curves ^___^, and for some reason its reminding me of a bird.

The clear is soooo... clear. That may sound funny unless you've worked with clear glass. Nice job eliminating smoke and burns-

PS- only do lampwork which is nothing like your trade, but that's why I am so impressed with your clear.

LaughingTree In reply to Aartsee1 [2006-07-29 03:25:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Although I think you'll find that without the use of an oxy-propane torch, it's much much easier to keep clear, clear. Pretty much no chance of "burning" the glass wihtout using a torch. With blown glass like this, it's mostly bubbles you have to worry about.

Aartsee1 In reply to LaughingTree [2006-07-29 06:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, that's interesting. Love it when I can learn something new. Just out of curiousity, how do you regulate the bubbles?

Thanks for sharing-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LaughingTree In reply to Aartsee1 [2006-07-29 07:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's more of a, how do you get rid of the bubbles question. Generally bubbles are no wanted. So to get rid of them, you "pick" them out and then cut them off. However, the trick is to do it without getting your inner-bubble (The main bubble) off center. Easier said than done...

This one is my fav out of this series. I really like the shape. (even if it has a problem staying on its feet) Another really great job on the engraving as well. I'd imagine engraving glass is quite difficult.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LaughingTree In reply to EveShifter [2006-07-07 14:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Engraving glass is not necessarily so hard, but it does take a lot of time and it does take a lot of practice. It's a very tedious and if the piece is heavy, straining process. One slip up, and you have to alter your design

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

swayback [2006-07-06 01:05:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm diggin' the hexagonal pattern. It brings some geometry to the very organic form of the glass. That, and it's badass because I can't see that being an easy thing to do.
Very well done.

Even if not entirely desireable structurally, I think being unbalanced could be considered a good thing, artistically.

too bad it's not as balanced as you'd probably want it, but the colours on that are so beautiful, especially near the top. It looks really natural.
