Description
I made this piece while house/studio sitting for scott Benefield this past summer. I made it by myself without any assistants. It's a 3 part incalmo, and yes, it's off-center on purpose
Took about 3 hours to make. It's about 14" tall and is going to a good friend for her birthday.

it reminds me of this star trek next generation episode.. this lady was trying to take over the ship with this game that helped her manipulate them.. and the things from the game looked like that almost.. only purple-y instead.
i'd love to be able to make things like this..

ooo wow.... i really like the colours on this one. It almost looks like its still molten. the colour also flows and contors to the shape of the vase very well. And what an interesting shape it it.

Scott has his studio hooooooked up for solo blowing. He's got all these little gadgets and gizmos that make it possible. In any other studio I've ever worked in, there's no way I could pull of an encalmo solo...

oooh, that sounds really cool. my skill level isn't such as to allow solo blowing but i seriously respect those who can. i'd love to see his studio, sounds grand. apparently he does a lot of solo blowing himself?

YEah, he's a solo blowing machine! He built the studio for solo blowing. It's wondrous! Although, his solo work is much less complex. Just mostly cane pickups. He's a cane monster.

well there's a certain limit to the degree of complexity one can acheive solo. does he prefer to blow solo? i kind of like the companionship of working with someone in the studio...

There are things about both that are very very nice. He does like blowing solo, as do I, but sometimes and with cerain work it's very nice to work with other people too.
And yes, the companionship and teamwork that come with workign iwth other people, not to mention the suggestions, all come in very very handy.
