This is the first piece I created in my new "painterly series" inspired by color swatches and brushstrokes...

This piece was blown solo, with no assistants at Scott benefield's studio back in October '05. I just finished the engraving on it. I'm planning on taking some nicer photos of it, but it's already been bought and will be on its way to its new home soon enough. But not before some nice photos. I'll update the photos when the nice ones get taken... In the meantime, there's this...

The piece took about 4½ hours to blow, and then I spent 15-20 hours engraving it... That tiny battuto in the middle took FOREVER! I was so sore the next day.
It's a 5 part encalmo, switch axis.
About 16" tall

That's one of the finest glassworks I've ever seen. I come from Finland, a country with a lot of glass design and glass artists, but IMO hardly any of it comes to this level. I really dig the textures, the strong colors and the overall shape. The plies on the edges remind me of Chinese paper lamps, which I find a nice association.

Why thank you very much. My friend just moved to Sweden for a year-another big glass country. I think your association with paper lamps is an interesting association. While it wasn't a conscious awareness at the time, I think such thoughts may have been swirling around the very back of my head

Love the textures you put on this one, especially right around the neck where it twists.
