It's probably the type of borders you are using. A basic one like the border around the sig in my tut looks best. Seriously, give it a try. Your stuff will look a lot better than what it already is. :3

How exactly do you get the stary effects? Just brush with a 1 px hard brush? that's what I did, but it didn't turn out like yours =/

No, I downloaded a seperate brush pack for the stars. Search dA for "Stardust brushes" or something, should get results. ^^

Thank you! ^^ Yes, there is a bit much text, because the requester (I made this sig for a friend) wanted this long quote... Not to mention that he gave me the quote in an other language and wanted me to translate to English. o_O Anyway, thank you for the tutorial! ^^ I tried this type of technic several times (I used other tutorials o_O I'm still learning how to use PS), but it always looked messed-up. This is the second time my smudging looks good.

And yeah, it takes a lot of time and practice to find your own personal style of smudging, it took me ages to become good at it too. XD
Anyway, remember to practice and you'll get a lot better!

Thats a really nice result! All I would say is that there is a bit too much text in it for my liking, it seems to be cramming up the banner a bit. But thats all down to personal preference, overall great job. ^^
