Description
This is the first part of the Scalemate tutorial I made! If you want to post this on Tumblr, please reblog it from my original post ! Also if you have any questions or comments, please contact me on my Tumblr !Pattern:
(Ignore the part where it says to wait until I tell you to cut the pieces out, just do it all at once. I don't care)
Basically copy/paste these into Microsoft Word or some other similar program and fit them to the page. Alternatively, photoshop them to be 8.5"x11".
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
NOTE: These patterns are NOT MINE! They are Metroid Hat's! Metroid's tutorial was taken down, so I thought I'd make another, since this is such a great pattern.
Materials
(There are some things on here that aren't on the tutorial because I derped and forgot them :/)
-Fabric: You don't need very much. I got wayyyy too much the first time, but I think about 1/4 to 1/3 of a yard (on a bolt 3 feet wide) would suffice for the body and less than 1/4 for the stomach. I use fleece, but pretty much any fabric will work. Fleece is soft and easy to work with, which is why I chose it. Or, alternatively, you could get scraps (I know they sell them at Joann's, but I don't know abuot other fabric stores). Scraps are usually the last bits of a bolt they can't sell normally, so they discount them a little bit.
-Stuffing (I use poly fiberfill from Joann's .)
-Buttons: I use the Favorite Findings Big Basic Buttons from Jo-ann's.
-Thread
-Needle
-Pins
-Scissors

Please DO NOT make these to sell! They are Andrew Hussie's intellectual property and you CANNOT make a profit off of them!

Entirely possible! As long as the material's sewable and easy to work with, you can make a scalemate out of pretty much any fabric. I use fleece because it's soft and fuzzy, but felt would work too.

Is it possible to make a scale-mate out of an old woollen jumper? I'm making one for a friend as a Christmas present.

"Basically copy/paste these into Microsoft Word or some other similar program and fit them to the page. Alternatively, photoshop them to be 8.5"x11"."
Please read the description. If you size the pattern images to 8.5"x11" (in a word processing or similar program) then they'll be the right size.

Dude-what if like the whole body and head (except buttons) is just one color(cause Im gonna make a yellow scalemate with red and blue button eyes fur my sollux-like classmate).SHould I still do the procedure furr the body?Or should I just make the body without doing that thing and just sew a shape of the belly on the scalemate since its just one color?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
LavastormSW In reply to Feiticeiro-de-Cor [2012-08-11 04:26:11 +0000 UTC]
You could do either, but I think it would look better if you still cut out the body and stomach separately and sewed them like how I show in the tutorial.

I dont usually make things like this, so i dont know how the patterns are supposed to be cut out of in the fabric. The pattern is really small on the screen, but big in the picture. ( sorry ive never made something like this before 'n'

LavastormSW In reply to mew3500 [2012-08-10 07:10:36 +0000 UTC]
You have to copy/paste the pattern images into a Word document and size them to fit a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper, then print and cut them out.

this tutorial looks awesome! about how long did it take you to make one of these?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
LavastormSW In reply to D-girl1101 [2012-08-08 08:13:35 +0000 UTC]
I would say, for a beginner, it may take two to three days, since sewing by hand is slower than a machine, which is what I now use. I can make one in a couple hours if I'm motivated enough to.

LavastormSW In reply to confusedcara [2012-07-28 23:40:47 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome! I had to shop around a bit to find good buttons. A lot of buttons have just two holes in them, but I wanted to be more canon. My only qualm is that they have the ridge around the edge, but I like them because they're uniform and have a lot of different colors.

They end up around 8ish inches (20ish centimeters) tall.

In the pattern-theres this "Easy Mode" and "Hard Mode" written next to the patterns of the bodeeeh
So ish that te Hard or Easy moed?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
LavastormSW In reply to Feiticeiro-de-Cor [2012-07-04 17:30:25 +0000 UTC]
This is "hard" mode. "Easy" mode is where you sew the stomach color on with a whip stitch onto the body after you stuff it. I think it looks weird, since then the stomach protrudes, but you can do it that way if you choose.

How do you fold over the "Arms"? I tried to figure it out, but nothing looks right.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
LavastormSW In reply to kenzrulz [2012-05-30 22:11:24 +0000 UTC]
Um, it's kinda hard to explain without pictures, but basically, if you look at the tutorial, you pin the little triangle dealies like it shows (right sides of the fabric together) and place it down with the belly on the table. Take an 'arm' and kind of rotate it so the end of the arm matches up with the top of the belly (see the picture in the tutorial). You shouldn't twist or fold the arm at all, just rotate it horizontally.
I hope this clarifies things? Reply to this if it doesn't, I'll take some new pictures to make things clearer.

It's the second paragraph in the description. -.-
"Pattern:
(Ignore the part where it says..." etc
And then there's a link to each part of the pattern.
