Description This is the first part of the Scalemate tutorial I made! If you want to post this on Tumblr, please reblog it from my original post ! Also if you have any questions or comments, please contact me on my Tumblr !

Pattern:
(Ignore the part where it says to wait until I tell you to cut the pieces out, just do it all at once. I don't care)

Basically copy/paste these into Microsoft Word or some other similar program and fit them to the page. Alternatively, photoshop them to be 8.5"x11".

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

NOTE: These patterns are NOT MINE! They are Metroid Hat's! Metroid's tutorial was taken down, so I thought I'd make another, since this is such a great pattern.

Materials
(There are some things on here that aren't on the tutorial because I derped and forgot them :/)

-Fabric: You don't need very much. I got wayyyy too much the first time, but I think about 1/4 to 1/3 of a yard (on a bolt 3 feet wide) would suffice for the body and less than 1/4 for the stomach. I use fleece, but pretty much any fabric will work. Fleece is soft and easy to work with, which is why I chose it. Or, alternatively, you could get scraps (I know they sell them at Joann's, but I don't know abuot other fabric stores). Scraps are usually the last bits of a bolt they can't sell normally, so they discount them a little bit.

-Stuffing (I use poly fiberfill from Joann's .)

-Buttons: I use the Favorite Findings Big Basic Buttons from Jo-ann's.

-Thread

-Needle

-Pins

-Scissors

Scalemates (c) Andrew Hussie

Please DO NOT make these to sell! They are Andrew Hussie's intellectual property and you CANNOT make a profit off of them!

Not much. A 16 oz bag should be fine.

Hey, I don't have Microsoft word or Photoshop. Is there any free programs I can use to print the patterns with?

LavastormSW In reply to SilverKiti [2014-06-05 00:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Or you could just save the files to your desktop, right click them, and select 'print.'

OpenOffice is a free Microsoft Office analogue. You could use that.

About how big were the buttons you used? Like, I tried to go to the link in the description but I can't, and I want to get the best size for the eyes.

I may sound stupid for asking this, but is there a template or something? I might have skipped over something, but I'm just confused. I have never even touched sewing materials, or looked at patterns! So if you could answer this for me, that would help me a lot

NeonKitten101 [2013-07-24 23:35:12 +0000 UTC]

This question may have already been answered elsewhere but is it alright to use a sewing machine instead of stitching this by hand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to NeonKitten101 [2013-07-24 23:40:23 +0000 UTC]

Of course! I sewed a lot of my scalemates with a machine. There are some tricky parts, so sew slowly and carefully.

oO0RyuuHeartsYou0Oo [2013-07-18 03:41:28 +0000 UTC]

do you think you would get the same (or better) result with the blanket stitch or even whip stitch?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to oO0RyuuHeartsYou0Oo [2013-07-20 02:21:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if it would make a difference. I'm not an expert on different stitches. As long as the two pieces of fabric are sewn together, I don't think it matters what kind of stitch you use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oO0RyuuHeartsYou0Oo In reply to LavastormSW [2013-07-20 02:27:18 +0000 UTC]

ok cuz i prefer the blanket stitch backstitch is kinda hard for me to grasp

AkiChan63 [2013-05-15 18:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Does anyone know, how big the scalemates are?

I don't know how big I must cut out the patterns.

Id would be nice if you could answer me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to AkiChan63 [2013-05-16 05:59:25 +0000 UTC]

In the description it says "copy/paste these into Microsoft Word or some other similar program and fit them to the page. Alternatively, photoshop them to be 8.5"x11"."

Just fit the images to standard 8.5"x11" paper (pretty much what everyone uses everywhere) and print it out. The finished product stands roughly 7" tall.

About how long does it take to make this? o:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to punkEvergreen [2013-03-18 16:13:14 +0000 UTC]

I can make one in about three hours or so, but I've made a ton of them. For a beginner, I'd expect it to be a lot longer. It also depends on if you're hand or machine sewing.

I'm pretty sure the pattern got taken down for a reason. :/ Andrew Hussie didn't want it around.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to Kalistik-Cheryzia [2013-02-19 06:08:51 +0000 UTC]

As long as no one is profiting from it, Andrew Hussie doesn't care. I'm not profiting off of this pattern or tutorial and I don't think Metroid Hat was, either. I don't know why their tutorial was taken down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalistik-Cheryzia In reply to LavastormSW [2013-02-23 15:51:50 +0000 UTC]

In general, fan products are fine if they're not being sold for a profit, but this in particular was taken down because Andrew didn't want it up. A lot of fans were selling them as "official" plushes, which is, I think, where the problem originated. I don't think it really matters if you have it up, but don't be surprised if it gets too popular and you get told to take it down or something

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to Kalistik-Cheryzia [2013-02-23 18:44:28 +0000 UTC]

I cannot control if people make these to sell from my tutorial. I have a disclaimer that says, very clearly and on all parts of this tutorial, that these are NOT to be sold. I am not selling them and I am not profiting from anything related to this tutorial. I do not see why having a tutorial up would be a problem, as there are a pluthera of other Homestuck-related tutorials floating around.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalistik-Cheryzia In reply to LavastormSW [2013-02-23 22:10:21 +0000 UTC]

I have acknowledged that, and as I said before, I was simply informing you of why it may be a problem. I believe another issue is that Eyes5 has not given you permission to repost her(?) tutorial. Regardless of credit, it's still impolite, it was taken down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LavastormSW In reply to Kalistik-Cheryzia [2013-02-24 01:00:38 +0000 UTC]

This is not a repost. I created this tutorial myself using a preexisting pattern.
