Description December 9: This day is celebrated as Anna's Day in Sweden and other parts of Scandinavia. This is the name day ascribed to St. Anna, Grandmother of Christ and patron saint of women. All women in general are celebrated on this day, but especially those named Anna. It's often known as Lutefisk Day, because this is the day you have to start preparing the lutefisk so it will be ready by Christmas. (Yes, it takes that long.) I decided to make a figure of Anna from the Frozen film series. The dress has a design and color scheme close to what she wore for the majority of the first movie. I'm really glad there's a freckle option now!

December 10: On this day in 1830, Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. She wrote more than a thousand poems but only seven were published in her lifetime. She was a rather shy and reclusive artist who rarely left her home. Her most famous portrait shows her in a black (or at least very dark colored) dress, but she was known as The Woman in White because she preferred to wear that color. Possibly, her family talked her into getting dressed up for her portrait. I have her as she would usually be, surrounded by books, pen in hand and clad in white.

December 11: This is the Tenth Anniversary of the video game Angry Birds. I made a humanoid approximation of Stella, the pink bird who traps the Bad Piggies and debris in her pink bubbles. She's now the star of her own puzzle game. In Finland, she even has her own cartoon series! Stella isn't a physically strong character, but if something gets caught in her bubbles it can float away and fall right on top of a Bad Piggy.

December 12: This is Dionne Warrick's birthday. She is 79 years old. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998, and 80 singles making all Billboard charts combined. She has six Grammy awards including the Lifetime Achievement award. She was also a UN ambassador for the Food and Agricultural Organization and  United States Ambassador of Health.

December 13: This supposedly unlucky day had two days I wanted to recognize. Since there was nothing on the 14th I could adequately portray, I used them both. First, it's St. Lucia's Day in Scandinavia. The eldest daughter in the family puts on a white robe, a red belt and a crown of candles. She wears this while serving cookies, buns and coffee to her family. It is a bit ironic that the longest night of the year is dedicated to a saint whose name means "light".

December 14: Celebrating National Violin Day. Although having ancient origins, violin-makers developed most of the violin’s modern characteristics in Italy during the 16th century. Further modifications formed in the 18th and 19th centuries. Which means Nero did not fiddle while Rome burned. (strummed a lyre, maybe.) What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle? No one cares if you spill beer on a fiddle!

December 15: Today is National Wear Your Pearls Day. Just as pearls come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, so do people and the kinds of trials thrown into our lives.  We create our own beauty from the tragedies of our lives but often do not see it.  We devalue ourselves and as a result, lose motivation to be a part of life.  Like pearls, we develop a process to protect ourselves from further damage, layer by layer becoming stronger and more resourceful.  Recognizing the collective value of our strengths is like wearing our pearls. It's also my wedding anniversary! I didn't have pearls. I wore rhinestones.

Though Christmas isn't until next week, this week is very Christmas themed! Besides Las Posadas and Saturnalia there will be some beloved Christmas story characters and more. Look for it next week!
