Here's a quick tutorial on creating line art from a scanned pencil drawing - everybody does it differently, but this is my favorite method. It's quick, easy, flexible, and NO WHITE HALOS.

EDIT: This also makes it REALLY easy to paint on your lines, if you want some lines to be a different color/grade from one color to the other, etc. Don't do the "Cover Overlay" step, but select "lock transparent pixels" on your line art layer (it's next to the layer name in the layers window). Now as long as the line art layer is selected any painting you do will only apply to the lines.
