My take on how Transformer Holoforms work and how Techno Organics are created. Constructive comments welcome. If you do not like the idea of a half Human half Cybertronian Hybrid, don't bother reading or commenting. Would it be possible for a given mech to generate a unique holoform by scanning multiple people and then 'photoshop' the traits they like together into a single holoform? For the Decepticons (Barricade, Blackout, and Starscream specifically) all using the 'Moustache Man' could have simply been a matter of not caring enough to make each of theirs unique outside of giving the appropriate uniform for their alt mode. (Police uniform for 'Cade, maybe slightly different flight suits for Blackout and Starscream)
Also, I'm assuming that they can share the data for a given holoform, since I don't think the guy the 'Moustache Man' takes his likeness from would have lived long enough for five - six Decepticons (if you want to count Wreckage) to scan him.

Actually, just like with their alt modes, their holoforms can be customized just as easily. They can scan a vehicle and either use it as is or alter certain cosmetic features such as paint job, markings, embossing, symbols, the pattern of the rims or grill, even a hood ornament. With a holoform, they can scan one (or multiple) people and either use that visage as is or modify it to suit them, such as clothing, skin color, eyes, hair color or length, make the holoform look older or younger, taller or shorter, etc, even crossing features to create a unique look. And yes, they can transmit Transcanning data for alt modes and holoforms between them if they so choose, though that would be through a hard wire transfer with their neural tendrils in their arms (one in each arm).
Do remember that their Protoform (with comet like transition mode) and their Cybertronian form (with Cybertronian vehicle alt mode) are hard wired into their Transformation systems, though they can scan and store up to 6 "alien alt modes" (non Cybertronian) which they can switch between if they so choose. It would be the same with the holoform, though the nanoform underneath would not change and always look like their Cybertronian form, minus the exterior armor. On Cybertron, the robotic nanoform would have been used for tasks that required a more delicate and precise hand, or for things that their true form was much too large to do, such as getting through small spaces to retrieve or repair something. Most do not have or know how to create or reconfigure small bots as symbiotes, thus the nanoform would do most jobs that symbiotes would be used for if they had them (like Soundwave's symbiotes). The hard light force field projection system would be used to mimic their true form's armor to protect the nanoform when used on Cybertron, and when on planets like Earth, they use that to project a human like exterior over it to blend in better.

I used to not really like TF/human romance mainly because too many people on fanfiction.net have written it badly with only a couple of exceptions and I also assumed at one point that the only way techno-organics could form would be the way Sari was in Transformers Animated (it just didn't seem right to me that an Autobot and a human could *ahem* get that physically close to each other and have offspring ). However, going over this and reading it at least twice is causing me to reconsider a few of those things.

**smiles** I was never too keen on the whole "giant robot having sex with a little human" thing either, but the holoform gives a logical and realistic alternative, thus having background in the various fields of study that I have, I was able to pull this together and explain just how that would actually work for those who want a more logically realistic explanation of how such a thing might work. I love the way you explained this, I really do. How do the nanocells on the holoform give off different colours to make a human appearance, are they magnetochromatic particles?

Think hard light holographic force field projections actually, which they can use to mimic either armor or organic flesh, or whatever else they need to cover their nanoform. However, any bot less than 10 feet in height would not have the mass to be able to produce a nanoform, but they all can produce the holoform projection regardless of size since it does not have to have a solid material base underneath.

Oh, yeah, 'cause TFs frames are made of shiny metal, they'd be a good surface to bounce a holographic projection off. Didn't think of that at first, lol! Could they use their nano-tech to bounce light off outside reflective things, too? (Like, mirror glass, maybe?)

Yes actually they could. The smaller bots would still be able to produce a small (about the size of your fist if not a bit smaller) remote projection device that could generate the full holoform around itself, placing the generator at where the heart would normally be in a human. It wouldn't be a full nanoform, and thus they couldn't use it to spawn a Techno Organic, but their real forms would be small enough they could transfer nanocells to a human in a similar way through their interface cable instead of using the nanoform the larger bots have. **shrugs**

Shouldn't all TFs have the capability to copy whatever's around them with their holographic display, and turn invisible, in this case?

Yes and no. Not so much invisibility as blending in. Thus their Trans-Scanning and Replication systems tied into their Transformation systems.

But if they have the capability to both scan their environment, and alter their color accordingly with a projection, theoretically, they could project what's behind them, onto them, and they'd be invisible...

Theoretically, but they would be camouflaged, not invisible. Think chameleon. Transformers are innate and instinctive chameleons as it is, but true invisibility would require light to bend around or pass through them. What you are talking about is pure camouflage, not invisibility. **smiles**

Pass through, yeah....... as for bending light, think about it: if you bent light away from you, you wouldn't be invisible, there would be a big, black space in the shape of your body... Which is the definition of the absence of light, but not invisibility. A couple other researchers and I had this debate, while we were watching the film ββPredatorββ, lol

Bending light away, yes, but bending light around you, no. It would be similar to a gravitational lens effect, you would end up with a distortion similar to what you see with the Predators. Not true invisibility, but close too it.

Sweetness! thanks for posting this! it's gonna be a HUGE help for the RP fanfic a co TF fan friend of mine and i are doing - seeing as my OC is paired with one of the Autobots since she's 'unofficially' part of NEST due to knowing some of the members personally!!! 
But im not saying which 'bot she's paired with!...only that instead of one child/techno organic...they have twins, with a 3rd on the way!!!...somewhat sadly for them, that's it..since in my OC's family on her father's side, the females have no more than 3 kids, most of the time dying in childbirth during the 3rd....

Hmmm, interesting. Though if a TF mates with a human (in their holoform), either they will bond the first time they couple with each other (on overload), or they will never bond no matter how much time passes or what happens between them. Either the Spark accepts and bonds or it doesn't, period. No middle ground there, sorry.

oh! no it's my bad! i worded it wrong! what i meant by 'but the comfort bonding AFTER is the whole reason for it!!' isn't BONDING bonding - they already have...i meant like the 'bonding; between 2 people...like the saying 'father son bonding time'...its.. them growing closer by spending time together....i should have made that last part a little bit more clear, i guess..sorry about the confusion...

This is absolutely incredible. Probably one of the main reasons why I love the Transformers universe so much is that it can be interpreted and invented in so many different ways, and you've done an amazing job doing so.

Oh wow, thank you so much! I wrote this based on studying human and animal biology, mechanical and electrical engineering, and robotics since I was about 8-10 years old. I tried really hard to make it plausible and logical, and it surprised me when an electro-mechanical engineer was so impressed with it he read it like 6 times over I think he said. **points to ** XD I'm really glad you like this.
