Description
The figure stood, feet firmly planted to the ground and her hands balled into fists at either side of her. “So you ARE free.” Her voice was venomous as she hissed those words through clenched teeth. Immediately, Topaz stepped forward, placing herself in between Cyel and the stranger, whom Cyel recognized as another Topaz.
“Azotic,” Topaz’s voice was weak, and Cyel wasn’t even sure if the other Topaz would even hear her.
“After all this time,” Azotic shook her head. “I wasn’t sure if..”
“What’s going on here??” Cyel demanded, a hint of desperation plaguing her tone.
Turquoise irises snapped towards the smaller gem. “Shut your mouth, Tourmaline, this doesn’t concern you.” Shocked by her sharp and frank wording, Cyel opened her mouth and started to step forward to give her a piece of her mind, but Topaz put a hand in front of her to try and discourage such an advance.
“Listen,” Topaz started, her voice softer and calmer than Cyel had ever heard it. It wasn’t soft in a gentle way, but soft in a desperate way, as she tried to deescalate the situation. “It’s been.. 5,000 years, there’s no need for anything drastic to go down here.” The way she was speaking reminded Cyel of the Topazes back home; sometimes it was hard to imagine Topaz in a rank of superiority over the other Topaz soldiers, but the calm authority in her tone reminded Cyel of who and what Topaz exactly was; she was a leader, even if she didn’t often show it. “What are you doing here?”
The realization struck Cyel like a wall; this was Topaz’s partner, her other half. She had to be, aside from attire and hair length, they looked identical. And yet, their color palettes did not match. In fact, Cyel had never heard of two different types of Topazes being paired up before. An Imperial Topaz was truly something special, but an Azotic Topaz? They were pretty common, and yet, these two were from the same geode? How could that be? The realization that this Gem had been the one that poofed her Topaz and trap her underground wasn’t far from Cyel’s mind, and anger boiled within the green and pink Tourmaline.
“I came here to see if… if you were still contained,” Replied the other shortly. “Obviously not. What, did that lowly Tourmaline release you? How long have you been hiding?”
“I’ve not been hiding, Azotic, and Cyel didn’t free me, it was the indigenous life forms here that found me,” Taking a step closer to Azotic, hands outstretched in a cautious way, Topaz gestured to herself. “I chose to stay here, and Cyel got stuck here some time ago.”
“Shut up!” Both Topaz and Cyel winced in surprise and Topaz stepped backwards, closer to Cyel almost instinctively. “I don’t care! I just came to see if you were still here. Everyone said that the Earth had been destroyed back at the end of the rebellion so...”
“You.. wanted to see if I was still alive?”
Her voice was lighter now, Cyel could hear the hint of hope that had sneaked its way into the orange Topaz’s tone, but Cyel didn’t share the same sentiment, and for good reason.
“Yes,” Azotic confirmed. “.. So I can finally finish the job.”
Topaz, who was understandably shocked by what her sister gem had said, shook her head frantically. “Azotic, you don’t have to do this! You didn’t have to do what you did back then, either, you’re better than that!”
“No I’m NOT!” She shoved a finger forwards, pointing it directly at Topaz. “Because of you, I’ve had to spend my entire existence proving that I’m good enough not to be shattered!” She took another step forwards. “Because of YOU, I had to take care of the stupid RED Topazes!” Her eyes welled up with tears as she took one more step forward. “Because of you, I’m the outcast! I’m done living in your shadow, so I’m finally going to do what I wasn’t strong enough to do in the first place! I’ll-”
With a flash of light, Topaz’s weapon was summoned, and she slashed them forwards, causing Azotic to jump backwards and stare in shock. Topaz’s eyes were furious, and Cyel had never seen that expression on her lover’s face. She crouched lowly to the ground, like a tiger ready to pounce, her golden irises wide and alert and her chakram separated into two blades in each hand.
“Don’t do this, Azotic!” Topaz shouted to the other; Azotic simply drew her own weapon, a throwing disk with a sharp, saw like edge, and mirrored her pose.
“I have to,” she replied flatly. “Or else I’ll never have peace oF MIND!” Azotic lunged forwards to attack, hurling her disk downwards, aimed right for Topaz’s gemstone. Topaz instead blocked by crossing her chakram blades, deflecting the attack and attempting to cut Azotic’s legs, but Azotic jumped and kicked Topaz straight in the face, sending her stumbling backwards and landing on her backside. It was apparent to everyone present, and especially to Topaz, that Azotic had more experience fighting. The most Topaz had ever fought was a couple small corrupted gems here and there to help Steven, and that’s really about it.
Shook from her almost dazed state, Cyel summoned a couple of her bombs. “Hey, you jerk!” She threw one at Azotic, which hit her square in the temple. Blinking in confusion, she picked up the item off of the ground and looked at it in confusion, then turned to look at the Tourmaline in anger. That’s when the little object exploded into a cloud of pink smoke. It really wasn’t enough to really hurt her as much as Cyel wanted it to, but it was enough to distract her long enough to keep her off Topaz a moment while the orange gem recovered.
“Why, you--” Azotic charged towards Cyel, but out of nowhere, Topaz tackled her to the ground and gracefully rolled away.
“Eyes on me!”
Shrieking at Topaz in blind rage, Azotic clambered up to her feet, and charged once more.
