Description
This is Lemontea's Definitive Vector Guide Version 3.0.1. That title was a wee bit large for the title on DeviantART.For all those who have never seen version 1 or 2, this the guide for Photoshop 7 - CS2. These are true vectors; they are not rasters. Deal with it if you don't like it, you purists, but Photoshop is a capable vector program. Props off to `voodoo-prophet , ^object2bdestroyd , *turp , ~fuzzynoise , and others who have supported me and helped me with vectors so many times.
I hope this allows everyone who wants to try their hand at this tutorial to get introduced to the wonderful world of vectors.
Have fun! This weighs in at about 910KB so you might want to make a sandwich or something if you're on 56k. I promise that this tutorial works if you can sit down and try it, and I suggest you do. I've seen so many great results and people that are now better than me because of trying my tutorial when they were first getting started. I can pick out "lemontea-styled" vectors from thumbnails in the vector galleries, and it's somewhat humbling.
INSTRUCTIONS
In order to use this tutorial, you must uncompress all of the files in the zip file to the same directory. WinZIP or the default WindowsXP compression agent will allow you to do this. To launch the actual tutorial, open the "index.html" file.
If there is a problem, feel free to access this guide on-line at [link]

very interesting ^^ i never thought of vectoring that way (of course i just started learning how to vector...)
heh, i started in Illustrator, then went to Photoshop, and eventually I decided to wrestle with Illustrator and the previously "evil" pen tool.
hmm...la de da...

Wow. Photoshop is really that harsh for vecotring eh? Just how does the curve system work on that?
I use PSP8 myself and the curves for it are a snap. Curve nodes have arrow gyros that you can grab ahold of. You can see the curve being changed in real time so you can adjust it to exactly to how you want it. Good especially for photos. I can do massive cuves with only a handful of nodes.

Well, not really. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Same dragable features are in Photoshop as well for curves. Just people don't understand them too well. So I just tell them to click a lot. And once you get good at click, you drag and place all in one step because you go so fast

do you know how many times i have asked people "just what exactly IS a vetor?" and they never answer? Well if you'd ask, i'd say thousands. but it's probably only been like 6. But finally, i have my answers! Thank you, kind sir. I can't wait to read all of this.

Hm... I'll look into this. I'm reading your tutorial right now, and I plan on going through lucky13's tutorials, I've just been using the polygonal lasso this whole time to make vector-esque things. It's certainly easier.

Well a truely fexible art program should be able to do both vector and raster. In some cases mxing the two togther is rather cool.
But yeah I'll definetly do somer reading on this and see if it will improve me.

Pretty cool, you do alot of things the old and slow way, but that's bad since it builds the dicipline needed to do really tough vectors later and you also stick to your guns when it comes to photoshop vs. illustrator... although I prefere the later I have respect for you for knowing what you like for what you do and sticking to it.

For some reason, I tend to see Vector art as cel-shading without the lines. Then I DLed your tutorial the other day... to be proven wrong. Anywho, I read it over a couple times and the thing shouldn't be TOO hard to do, so I'll give it a spin with something really simple for beginners.
aka: Nice tutorial.

A reasonably good tutorial, I did find it useful - I ran into this not out of interest, but purely out of chance, and well, I must say I've never ventured down the alley of vector art (Until now). Lets just say I wasn't quite aware of the potential of vector art - its capabilities..
Anyhow, you mentioned it was your first tutorial, I think it was reasonably good, but the communication could have been done in a better manner, and maybey the layout of the page and theme of the page (The table of contents was fine though). Don't ask me for specifics, I don't know, and I'm not in much of a position to speak - This is just my opinion, do NOT take it too seriously, under any circumstances. - The content is gold though.
I also feel sympathetic, after hearing you were scrutinised for the views in your last tutorial.
Well, thanks a million for the tutorial - I'm off to get my grubby hands on some vector work.

this isnt classed as vector, because the format is raster, and not vector.

Hi. Read the tutorial.
Photoshop uses the same tool (pen tool) to make things as in Illustrator; it can be made an illustrator vector with a transfer to illustrator.
The pen tool is a vector path. Vector path is a vector. Just because the end format is a raster, it does not mean that it's not techinically a vector. Don't bother debating me, I already had this when I was a DTF for version one. Read those. All valid points, but if you read the tutorial (or at least it's intro) before bothering to comment, you should know better than to:
a.) leave a comment with absolutely no criticism or thanks for my work besides a random notice that obviously, had you read the intro to the tutorial, I already know.
b.) not reason it out that these techniques and principles can be applied to almost every program.
c.) bring up something I obviously stated not to because I already explained it all before.
Ok?
