I've done this for a while. Vectors are a little hard to work with, but I can make fucking amazing Fake Rasters ----> [link]

It's really not hard, at times it's like Rotoscoping.

makes for an excellent tut -- well worded and informative. i've been experimenting with vectors in the past ... though this opens a new technique to me.

I'm going to look at it right now.

On a side note it doesn't bother me when people confuse rester & vector. I'm a restor kinda guy any way. What does chap my ass is when I am "REQUIRED" to drop "MY" firewall to to make a download "ANYWHEWRE" on the web.

Back to the purist. Some one will say configure it like this or that. I like my setting high & stelth. I shouldnt need to make adjustments to please some website.

Sorry about that Lemonta & I'll get back to you on the tut just venting there.

Have a great day every one.

good job i guess... but i mean you can do the same thing in illustrator... and have it be a real vector...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to mikepav [2004-07-18 23:31:49 +0000 UTC]

Yar, but this is a real vector. Pardon the late reply. Just because it is rendered in Photoshop, it does not mean that it doesn't contain vector qualities. Like the ability to resize, change dpi, or the ability to edit points.

You bet. I skim though the whole thing and finally realized it was for PS. I never knew PS have the capabilities. Well anyway, this going to my fav right now. I'll work on this.

I scanned through it and from what I could see it was well done. However, yes you should have said it was raster but no biggie. To all those people out there who are upset by people who claim "vector" in PS is wrong why dont you just leave that up to the artist. Im a vector artist myself, but I still enjoy doing raster work in PS. Why? Because thats where I became interested in the style and decieded to make the move to Illy. Raster only promotes the interest in the style of vector art so leave it alone. If you cry about how the art is made than you are missing out on the work. Im done....

Great tute, but the first thing that came to mind was on the same plane as c2de, for why fake it...one should be fed by the hand of the great one, AI Illustrator(you can only imagine the possible). Plus AI and its candid vector source is the best output software around...one can create art with the dimensions of 2''x2'' and increase to 10'x 10' without pixelation.

c2de [2003-07-10 16:37:28 +0000 UTC]

We all agree that PS is NOT the program for Vector works, but this is a tute on how to make things that look like it in PS, Raster Vector, what the hell, this is a good tutorial, the author state his apologies on miswording so why don't we stop flamimng it for what its not and accepting it for what it is and say that this is good stuff eh ?

riftfusion [2003-07-10 16:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Well even though it is faking it...It is still a cool tut. Good job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to riftfusion [2004-07-18 23:27:31 +0000 UTC]

Nope, it's not faking.

Vector masks in photoshop are completely, totally resizable. Not to mention, they can be imported into illustrator.

I think everyone knows Illustrator is God, but more people got Ps..the little people who can't afford Illustrator...

anyway thank you for your guide to help everyone else!

Also, since people are complaining about "fake" vectors, they're now called vexels...

Too bad that it's not a vector guide at all though, it's a "how to fake vectors by actually creating raster images that LOOK like vector images but are not" guide.

With vectors you can zoom in and out how much you want without quality loss. With raster images, like those ones in the tutorial, you get pixels when you zoom in and a blurry mess when you resize it to a bigger resolution, thus it's not vectors at all, but more like a "clever" way to fake them (and a good way to piss off purists, read: me )

Seriously though, if you're serious about making vectors, Photoshop is NOT the program to use, you need a proper vector program, like Illustrator or Freehand to mention two. Raster programs, like Photoshop, are made to do raster images, and vector programs are made to do vector images. I mean, you wouldn't try to paint an oil painting with water colors, would you?

nice tutorial for basic how-to-do vector in photoshop ^_^
illustrator is still best to do plain vector tho, imo.

i havn't looked at it yet.
but i found out today that the so called "vectors" i've been doing
aren't really vectors at all...but "rasters"
can you believe it? i mean.. good one.
i mean real cool, it's like i've been living a lie.
if i cared more... and really cared what people though...
but yeah so maybe this can help me.
