Description “In the moment when the eyes of the two men met, Javert, without having made the least gesture, became hideous. He had the face of a fiend who has found the victim he thought he had lost.”

What can I say? Javert and Valjean have grown on me since I started reading the book, so much so that poor Enjolras has been retired to the back of the sketchbook! Ha ha. I really like the way Hugo portrays Javert. He seems a very black and white character, perhaps misunderstood but cold and ruthless all the same. I’d imagine him to wear that stern look most of the time… he is, after all, the LAW! And the law is not mocked! Yadda yadda ha ha ha! *Is thrown in the Seine* XD

So yeah, I went a little crazy on the old textures here. Not so sure if it really works… perhaps it’s a bit much. Still, Valjean and Cosette attempt to escape the dogged determination of Javert…

Javeeeert!!!! he looks awesome in your style. which one do you prefer? book, musical.. Rush or Malkovich??

that look on Cossete's face just makes me go all GRRROWL *hulk smash*
b'aww... Valjean.. you gave him some sort of good old man look, I like it.

dont worry, the textures are fine. makes it look rough and dirty and messed up... just like Paris in that time.

OMG! What kind of question is that?? That's too hard! Ah! Ha ha ha. Well, now, I think I'd put the book character first, then Rush (although I think he's a little too short for Mr Ominous) and makes me laugh... and then Philip Quast singing the part in the musical. He's bloomin' amazing! [link] Haven't seen Malkovich's version yet, so I must seek that out.

Ha ha ha, yeah, I've not quite got the hang of Valjean's looks just yet. I wanted to give him a giant beard, but, well... it seems silly! XD

yep, book is my number one too. Quast is great, haven't seen the show, but it looks cool.
you should so check out Malkovich!! It's awesome.
I must confess, I haven't seen the movie with Rush, but I've seen pieces of it, I should go and see it some day.

Valjean looks great, really!
dont give him a giant beard... makes him look like a pedo, LOL

"I haven't seen the movie with Rush, but I've seen pieces of it, I should go and see it some day."

I posted links to the entire movie in one of my previous journals if you ever feel like watching it. It's a great film, if a little warped from the original story.

Ha ha ha ha!!! Pedo beard.

I have only the foggiest idea who Javert is, but he does look very menacing. And I thought the texture looked pretty cool.

OH MY YES WIN. And if you hadn't put "And the LAW is not mocked" in your artist's comments, I definitely would have I think my favorite bits of this piece are gonna have to be frightened!Cosette is frightened, and the little bunch of bricks behind the LAW's head. Lovely little atmospheric touch, there :3 Oh, and disapproving!eyebrows FTW XD His face just seems to be going "Is the LAW gonna hafta smackabitch? Srsly right now?"

Now that I've gushed enough to fill a novella, I'll shut up :3

Javert is so creepy! I love Victor Hugo's works. Have you ever read Notre Dame de Paris? One of my most favorite books.

Awesome pic, it has such a good feel to it. Well...evil feel to it. "Watch out, Valjean and Cossette!"

Leopreston In reply to MasikaRain [2009-05-25 18:02:21 +0000 UTC]

I hate it when he acts like a shadow! It creeps me out... something along the lines of 'there was a imposing figure standing in the shadows... no doubt it was Javert'. Lol. Scary man.

Oh, and I've never read Notre Dame de Paris. That's another one I must seek out! I've heard it's funny how Quasi talks to the gargoyles as if they were alive. Aww...

Yeah! It's sad too, because they really are his only friends. Poor guy. Gringoire is the best character in my opinion. Crazy mellow troubadour fellow. Of awesomeness.

I second the recommendation about the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Though I have to warn you... if you've only ever seen the Disney version, you are going to be shocked. The actual book is much, MUCH darker than the Disney version. I think you'd like it a lot more, actually...

To add to that... QUASIMODO DOESN'T SING EXCITEMENT FILLED DISNEY SONGS WHILE GLIDING ON A SOMETHING FILLED WITH WATER TO CREATE A PLEASING VISUAL. YES.
