No.
Before I get a lecture about cultural differences, I'm from Asia originally (Japan- who don't eat dogs in culture but I've often traveled to mainland Asia, multiple countries). I didn't say anything against the photo; how it shouldn't be here, how it shouldn't get a DD etc etc. That wasn't me.
I just said it would bother me as well if it was any animal. I don't eat them :/

Good, I don't have to accuse you of hippocrisy then. I can't stand people who are quite happy to tuck into a burger or sausages but show them (usually something they perceive as cute or cuddly) as food and they get on their (rather flimsy) moral high horse and start ranting and raving.
I wasn't criticising you, I just wanted to be sure you weren't one of these morons.
Good on you for being veggie (I assume you are), it's something I've lapsed from but I'm trying to get back into it.

This needs a mature warning for those who don't want to see a mutilated animal. A lot of my friends are really upset by this. Some of them are only kids.

So children can still eat their piece of meat with a good feeling

Well if they are kids and can see this, shouldn't you actively encourage them
to learn about the world rather than being shocked at someones food? Besides,
it isn't mutilated it's being prepared for a meal. A mature tag isn't needed
for food >_>

Oh, sh*t At first I thought it was just some kind of twisted sculpture - then I realized it was a real dog - damn, I almost threw up...

Anyway, it's funny how so many hypocrits scream about how bad it is to eat a dog and then they'll just have a beef (or chicken) burger - which is SO different

(Yes, I'm a vegetarian.)

While I don't personally care much, others will, so please put on a mature filter on this. If a mature setting is needed for blood and violence in art then it should apply to photography of actual guts.

Fair should be fair.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StephanePellennec In reply to omegasama [2012-11-20 13:23:23 +0000 UTC]

You want to prevent youth to see something you don't like. I can understand.

But where is the blood?
Where is the violence?

Would you ask a mature filter to this photo: [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Endless-Ness In reply to StephanePellennec [2012-11-20 14:01:40 +0000 UTC]

Where is the violence, the blood? Look at it again, man. The dog's guts are pouring out. If two men kissing warrants a mature contents tag, hell I'd say guts should qualify too. I wouldn't have clicked the thumbnail if I'd been warned I'd see a dead dog's guts.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StephanePellennec In reply to Endless-Ness [2012-11-20 14:12:03 +0000 UTC]

The dog is dead and it is just food in this context.
It is just as a dead fish that would have been opened. Kids are doing it when they fish, aren't they? They kill the fish, they put the knife in the stomach and open the fish, pushing all the inside stuff outside with the thumb... It's just normal.

The difficult part of the image is in the culture. We may feel horrified, disturbed, because of our culture, not according to the facts.

Anyway, there's a mature filter on this work now, so you shouldn't have been able to see the thumb if you would have had the filter on

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

madcarrot In reply to StephanePellennec [2012-11-20 15:20:49 +0000 UTC]

I'd personally argue that any photo submitted to DA depicting an animal with its guts hanging out, whether dog or fish or cow, and whether in colour or black and white, should have a soft mature content flag on it simply out of courtesy of users who find such imagery sickening - and because that is DA's content policy.

Also, in general, even in the media, one is warned in advance if imagery in a piece may disturb due to gore or brutality/violence.

With that said, I have no issue with the submission of the image or the DD, or even the eating of dog meat, though I do have a lot of issues with the way animals raised for meat in those sorts of countries are treated with such cruelty and inhumanity. However, that is a separate issue to this image alone.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Endless-Ness In reply to StephanePellennec [2012-11-20 14:48:59 +0000 UTC]

I have never met anyone who has played with fish insides when they were younger. What kind up **cked up kids have you met?

But more to the point, rationalizing how is rationalizing animal cruelty helping matters? I respect killing animals to eat and survive, not beating them to death in the most painful fashion possible to "make the meat taste better" and then gutting them and displaying them in public for everyone to see. It's not just because it's a dog, all disgusting treatments to pigs, chickens, cows that is so common in North America are simply not acceptable. We should strive for eradicating cruelty, not rationalizing it and oversimplifying it by saying things like "It's normal, it's food. Man's gotta eat."

Those are my kids, my own children and believe me they aren't fucked up.
They fish by themselves, the want to eat what they have fished, well they take care of all. They were not playing, believe me. They were preparing food.

You are talking about an other thing, about the food industry... I follow your mind and opinion about it.
With this shot I question myself about what I get into my plate. Are we better? My answer is "no", we just hide the horrible. This photo shows the horrible and must been seen, this is my opinion

Nothing strange here... as billions kids around the world, I was taught eviscerating fishes when I learnt fishing with my father (8 years old or so). And those days with me and dad fishing are now some of my dearest memories.
I don't remember any sorrow for the fishes, it was not "animal cruelty" but simply "clean up" the food before you can eat it. Nothing wrong... you wouldn't like to eat it dirty, would you?

Believe me, this is far less disturbing for a child than it is for you and me...

If shown on DA, yes. As said, I don't care either way, but the rules should apply to all forms of art. If this was just any other site I wouldn't give a rats ass, but there have already been complaints in journals of people I watch.

To be honest, it is just a caution for you to not having to deal with annoying comments, and for me to not having to see whiny journals.

Meat is meat, food is food, doesn't matter if it's a chicken or a dog, if you ask me, so I have no issue with the subject. But it still is a photo of a dead dog. The dead dog thing warrants a mature filter alone. Same if it was a dead chicken or fish or whatever.

The photo in itself is very nicely taken and thought provoking, so don't think I am writing this because I find it offensive or anything like that. It is just for the sake of those that do, or simply doesn't want to see dead dogs on their displays, you know. Many have a filter on to not having to see stuff like that at all, so why force it?

But, it's up to you. Just have in mind that there will probably be a lot of whiny comments about it.

I'm giving a small hand to him as he's a friend, as I understand his point here, but unfortunately isn't good enough in english to write his thoughts.

No problem. I was actually more concerned for his sake than anyone else's because the photo is wonderfully taken and the subject VERY interesting. So I kind of didn't want him to have to deal with "mature filter pls" comments more than necessary. It is better that those that want to see it, see it and can give their comments than people who would be offended or angry.

Soldier on ^^
