start with measuring around your head and using that circumference cut a rectangle of foam, from this you can make the dome you see in the tutorial. hope that helps

I feel like an idiot for not knowing this...but how do you see if the back of the resin eye is opaque with nail polish?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeSaVy In reply to ValiantShadow [2013-03-11 04:09:54 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, your not actually looking through the eye itself, sorry, i should have explained. you are looking through the tear duct, the black netting that the eye is placed on.
even if the eye itself was clear resin you could not see through it as resin distorts light and is not like looking through glass. hope that helps.

ValiantShadow In reply to LeSaVy [2013-03-12 14:40:36 +0000 UTC]

Okay. I knew it wouldn't make sense to try and see through the eye, but I wasn't sure how that worked.

Lol, I had to make sure I could see 'cause my mom was like: "If you can't see out of this thing, I'm not gonna let you wear it."

huh... i like this! i will use a balaclava hood because it is easier to work with. or so i've heard.

LeSaVy In reply to OmnipotentCarrot [2013-01-08 03:08:12 +0000 UTC]

i personally dont like balaclavas, they provide better movement and a more realistic head base though and i can see the appeal in them.

thank you! and since i have enough supplies for two masks, would anyone you know like to have a mask?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeSaVy In reply to OmnipotentCarrot [2013-01-14 03:28:17 +0000 UTC]

not really sorry.
you will find it difficult to sell a mask without a portfolio or gallery with other masks in it. i would say make your first and then make another of the same creature and try to improve any methods.

wait you hand paint it or airbrush?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeSaVy In reply to OwenFancies [2011-01-23 08:06:07 +0000 UTC]

both. i think in this one i hand painted.. but i airbrush as well..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OwenFancies In reply to LeSaVy [2011-01-24 04:38:37 +0000 UTC]

when you handpaint does it harden the fur?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeSaVy In reply to OwenFancies [2011-01-24 11:10:12 +0000 UTC]

yes, both airbrushing and handpainting hardens the fur, then once dry i use a dog brush to brush out the clumps and the fur is left stained the colour you want.

ritsuka-kun25 [2010-10-15 06:33:19 +0000 UTC]

the only thing that bugged me was you had the direction of the fur on top of the muzzle going towards the nose... the fur should actually go away from the nose, up to the top of the head.
other than that, looks good

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeSaVy In reply to ritsuka-kun25 [2010-10-15 06:42:00 +0000 UTC]

yeah i know, thanks anyway ^-^ i wasnt looking at the fur direction but now i do i always look at my dogs face haha but yeah.. i only did it like that cause i thought it looked better that way.
but thanks for the heads up

RandoM-CommentarY [2010-09-23 20:24:06 +0000 UTC]

Very cool, may I make one suggestion though.
When making the tape pattern just make one half of the head, trace it out then flip it to do the other side, that way it elliminates any asymmetry particularly when doing complex patterns, not that you seem to have any trouble with that =]
