Description Here we have a picture representing the life of RMS (HMT) Olympic from her birth started in 1908 to her death in 1936.

With each stage you can see how Olympic changed over her time as an Oceanliner and her brief time as a Troop Carrier during World War 1.

As a Troop Carrier she was the only oceanliner in the War to ever sink a German U-Boat, she sank U-103 who attempted to Sink the Olympic but fail, Olympic however tried to ram the sub but her massive propellors sliced the hull of the sub, sinking it.

Olympic had several refits and overhauls during her life, these included the extra lifeboats after the sinking of younger sister and her coal burning boilers replaced with oil burning boilers.

In the end with dying trade, White Star and CUNARD merged, giving the newest CUNARD vessel the money needed to complete her at the cost of most of the older White Star liners being retired and this included the Olympic, the last of the Olympic Class liners. So in 1934 she was retired, 1935 partially demolished and in 1936, the rest of her hull was taken to Scotland for the final scrapping.

She lived for a short 24 years, nothing remains of her anymore apart from a few of her internal parts like her First Class Lounge that exists in an Hotel in Northern England.

Things that Olympic, Britannic and Titanic ships taught me on what one should collide with in order to survive:

Iceberg: Bad idea!
Mine: Bad idea!
Warship: Good idea!
Another ocean liner: Good idea!
Military submarine:Β  Good idea!
Lightship: Good idea!

it seemed that since it was launched before the titanic it escaped the Titanic's curse like the the Britannic... or thats just my crazy theoyΒ

CodyR95 In reply to Sketchman911 [2017-08-01 09:44:25 +0000 UTC]

no, she was "cursed" to some extent, there were a lot of close incidents. running over a U-Boat (damaged prop and a few stern plates, minor flooding), collision with HMS Hawke (damage was above waterline), collision with Lightship Nantucket (no damage) , also being torpedoed twice (both were duds, dented plates from impacts)

But she never sank. I think thats what i was trying to say. The Olynpic had a very long career where as the titanic and britannic had very short times out on sea

she wouldn't have made it longer than 30 years (neither would the other two, had they not sank). the issue with bigger ships is metal fatigue, Olympic was showing signs of fatigue in her middle and was getting more and more expensive to maintain. Britannic might have lasted a little longer because she had triple hull, but Titanic would've probably been retired/scrapped around the same time as Olympic

Olympic was stored on a barn in Northern England after the scrapping and rediscovered 56 years later as far as I know. Anyways, Awesome!

There were several components of the interior components of her sister Brittannic that were found in a barn.Β  They were identified by their part number.Β  Those components were removed when the Brittannic was converted to a hospital ship.

not really as it would really mean replacing the metal of the entire ship. RMS Aquatania was in the same situation, she came a bit later than the Olympic class but survived to 1950 but her age and metal fatigue was so bad that before the decision was made to scrap her, a piano fell through a deck.

Britannic doesn't appear to have degraded much at all so she may still be with us for a while

they could of put her on dry land and keep her strait with pillars why did they not do that? ( P.S. : why is the queen mary still floating in the water? shouldn't itΒ have rusted a lot under the waterline)

Is correct. You must acquire yourself another methodology for the program.
I learn with Illustrator at three years. But only now I can operate thereby well as one can see hopefully at the pictures.

she was beautiful, I've read that she was the first twin sister of the Titanic. it's a shame that they scraped her. if she still be here today she would of been a lovely museum. o well, at least the Swan Hotel has some of the parts of her.

Lex-the-Pikachu In reply to JustLynnWeav [2012-04-16 15:21:36 +0000 UTC]

i think the last month of construction for Titanic in her fitting out stage, she was identical with Olympic in appearance but was soon changed to give Titanic her unique appearance. Olympic lived a good life and a successful career but it was a big shame they scrapped her.
