I'm getting a little Saul Bass and a little Robert McGinnis. It also reminds me a bit of Frank Frazetta's comedy posters for some reason.

I love the colours and the girl reminds me of the work of the guy who did the early Bond posters. Robert McGinnis, was that his name?
Wonderful stuff Liam.

Well spotted! It's a direct reference to his Bond work.
I think I said as much in a reply somewhere below...

Dude I'm finding a Sienkiewicz influence here and that's why I dig your art, it always reminds me of those unforgettable-but-forgotten heroes, but on fresh new versions.

LiamRSharp In reply to Osmont2 [2010-04-29 18:54:23 +0000 UTC]
Thanks man. Those guys - McKean, Sienkiewicz, etc. - were always a huge influence, even when I was drawing The Hulk, and even moreso Manthing! But you can only really get that vibe when you have control of the colour too. Glad you're digging it. Appreciated.
Very best,
L.

Superlative stuff -- kinda reminds me of Kilmt, a little -- the way there's texture to the background.

I'll not belabor the influence's, all been mentioned. Really nice stuff though mate. I'm slightly envious of how willing you are to experiment, it very refreshing and keeps your work exciting.
Coolness

Cheers buddy. Much appreciated. The influences are all there, but it's the heart of that work, rather than anything specific, that is motivating all this. Hopefully the end result will be pure Sharp!
Take care, and thanks again. Means a lot.
Very best,
Liam.

Awesome and fun!!! Has a touch of BIll Sienkiewicz mixed in with a take on the old Flint movies. Love it!!!

LiamRSharp In reply to Loopydave [2010-04-29 09:48:53 +0000 UTC]
Bill Sienkiewicz is ABSOLUTELY one of my big influences here, and what I'm shooting for - with my own Sharpiness anchoring the whole glorious mess hopefully!
Yeah, this is proper 70s retro, with good reason - the script takes us right back there and through to the present. Having a ball!
Take care mate,
L.

Wow! great work. The face is outstanding and really like how it becomes stylized in the pattering. The background is ace too. I think you should have developed the hand with the cigarette just a bit more with textures as it is so close to the face.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LiamRSharp In reply to Avelorn [2010-04-29 09:51:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, wondered about the hand, but hey, it's all so varied and stylized.
I think with comics you can get bogged down getting everything just right, when really it's all about kinetics, moving the story forward. I could spend forever fixing stuff on every page I ever did - but point taken!
Best,
L.
