What is abstract expressionism? It is non representational painting designed to express something of the artist's character and emotional experience. It aims to evoke that experience in the viewer rather than showing a 'scene' or object which represents these things. Making and viewing such art should be like Zen Buddhism, a direct experience of some kind of true reality.

In traditional painting? No it's isn't.
I can think of one other artist who I think definitely used it...his name is Antoni TΓ pies, very famous artist.
I think Anselm Kiefer /might/ have used it.
Other than that no, just /us/ three, (not that I count myself 'among them' as two of /us/ are extremely well know and celebrated artists and the other one is me). hehe
