I felt I had to collect this as soon as I saw it. The layers of imagery and the associations they evoke are... intense. Old style Arctic [or Antarctic] Whaling is just one of those and so here, on behalf of your friends and mine, is Mountain's Nantucket Sleigh Ride www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0JrV8… .

The hand of despair
Driven up the wall
Blood stained scratches
As I rip out my heart
My soul is savaged
My needs unfulfilled
I fight but to no avail
And whilst my life
Ebbs away, I enter a world
Of solitary peace...

Saw your image and the above is how I perceived your wonderful work. Hope you won't be offended

impressive work! first thought: clawing thru life. getting out of here in vain.
then: dedication, not giving up on the impossible.
after that I read your description

Absolutely love this piece, and pretty much agree with what others have said. It works so well because it lets the viewer arrive at their own exact conclusions. Stimulating imagination beats tight control of reception any day of any given week. Ambiguity is accessibility.

Like, I'm reading the dark colour in the image as the walls having been worn so far that they are bleeding, wounded, the desire to overcome them being stronger than mortar and stone. But the reverse would be just as 'legal' of an impression.

I like your style of writing and therefore thank you very much for the complimentary comment. I particularly like "Ambiguity is accessibility" and 'legal' in context of impression.

Thank you!

Fontana, TapiΓ©s, I just couldn't stop think about spatialism and materic art while looking at your picture. How much does it weight?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lien In reply to EnkaOwakura [2009-11-17 05:13:52 +0000 UTC]

That's a surprisingly interesting and thoughtful question and one I have not been asked here before, thanks. It's a small painting so it doesn't weigh much, also it has thin stretchers, so it's lighter than it looks. I don't know exactly. It weighs more than paint and less than stone. You obviously know your stuff, yes, my interest is in matter, density and physical presence over pictorial concern.

EnkaOwakura In reply to lien [2009-11-17 05:31:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm an art student, and one of my passions is investigation. I came across materic painting/sculpture and it inmediately caught my attention; while my lack of experience on the field make it really difficult to produce works of that nature, I'm interested on the matter. I've been recently fiddling with an idea for a series, but I lacked references. Your work fills that void for me now.

I'm honoured that you think that highly of my work, thank you. If you have any questions or want to talk about technique or materials then feel free to note me. I'm interested in seeing what you do with your idea.

Very powerful.
And I don't normally like 'abstract' art so much, I don't tend to see meaning in it, but I see meaning in this. Pain. And desperation. My fingertips actually and literally hurt looking at it. I have to favourite it, not much art provokes a physical reaction.
