Description
Event 378 "Shadows Son"-
15" x 12"
-
Alabaster Dust, Oil, Wax and Pigment on Canvas.
Be warned, daughter. He will use all his strength against you, and his strength is formidable. He will fight you every step of the way.
It's a cruel task, for you must unfasten the bindings of his heart and lay it bare.
There's great pain there; a pain he does not want to share with you.
-Juliet Marillier, from Son of the Shadows

Navidson points his video camera back down the utterly black corridor towards the white painted corridor inside the House...
...and then another black corridor appears in the blank wall opposite.*
*Unseen footage: The Navidson record; from The HOUSE of Leaves !

In the dank dark dawn
The wind roars
And growl
Alone I am
Abandoned
Surplus to requirements
You said you loved me
And I think you did
But your love
Was like an old cage
Rusty and worn
Where did we go wrong?
Why
A simple question
Which commands complex answers?
The dank dark dawn
Heralding yet another day
Of lonely despair …..

What an interesting array of multimedia upon canvas; I would love to be able to experiment like this! And with such incredible results! Love the dramatic effect the black has by placing so much emphasis upon the colours in this work; just so visually appealing! Excellant work, I am both impressed and inspired (:

her!
she has it...but in the back of her mind...in a jangling musical consort with keys and trinkets.
on a ring somewhere...dusty and shadowed and destined to rust to nothing.
i wish it were different

Do you think artists ever worry that they will have no fuel to create if they do not suffer enough?

Yes, probably...but it all depends where inspiration comes from, there is always some amount of suffering. I prefer to be happy and content when I'm working rather than otherwise.

Everyone prefers happy and ocntent, don't you think? Your work seems to say you paint regardless.

On the whole people prefer to be happy.
I'm afraid I have had a rough couple of years so happy and content is quite a rare feeling.
I paint through everything and don't censer myself.

Im really not often lost for words...but somehow when looking at your work, words seem to escape me.I get so involved in the piece,it becomes about emotion instead. This is a wonderful, atmospheric piece.

"There is great paint there"? Either that's what it says or it's a very big Freudian slip.

You gone back into the closet of broken dreams & shadows & pain. It also reminds me of a mirror in a darkened hall.

I like this even more than tick, tick, tick. It also reminds me of the monolith from 2001 (but having said that, practically everything reminds me of something from that film, lol).
And it so goes with the excerpt*. I can't pin down any reason why it should, it just does. Like something dark but hopeful.
*Just to give you a heads up, at the risk of sounding pedantic: typo in last line. =]

Oh...it really does go with it...but your not getting an essay on this one... (:
Dark but hopeful is absolutely spot-on...thanks so much mate, you can be as pedantic as you like...
