Description
"Gas prices have jumped by $3 today, which will translate into about a $2 increase on every item of food you will purchase. Please be advised we are expecting food riots and looting tomorrow. Please remain indoors, looters and rioters will be shot on site as the military will be securing supplies. All roads leading out of town are hereby shut down. MARTIAL LAW IS IN EFFECT. If you haven't prepared then maybe you should say a prayer." the President's voice boomed from the television.*Click* The familiar sound the TV made when it was turned off.
We both stared at each other, in absolute disbelief.
"I can't believe this is happening in America!" The boy said with a distinct tinge of fear.
"It's okay, we live in a safe neighborhood. and we have about 14 gallons of water and some food." the mom said in a comforting voice but obviously worried.
"MOM! You always were an optimist, but that will only last us a month! AND that's if we ration it out to one meal a DAY. What if it goes longer than a month?"
"Well then we better find all the containers we can and fill them with water! RIGHT NOW" said a mom who now had a plan of action and some sense of authority.
*One hour later after finding , cleaning and filling about an extra 18 gallons jugs of water*
"Ok now that's done I feel a little better." said the mom with a sense of pride.
*BZZT* (All The lights go out!)
"Oh no, I think the breaker went off." mom said a little taken a-back.
"It is possible, we DID just turn on ALL of the lights after hearing that news." the boy said with certainty.
Well let me go see if it's the breaker box, we do have flashlights after all! Mom said ever optimistically.
*mom goes to the breaker box with son in tow. Attempts are made to restore power.*
"Mom, maybe it's not just us?" the boy said tinged with more fear.
"Well let's go see out side." the mom said with a bit of curosity. *Heading for the front door.*
"NO MOM! Don't use the front door during a power outage! Someone could be out there!"
"Don't be silly. I always go out the front door in a power outage!"
"Right, but this time we need to go out the back door!"
"Why is that?"
"They JUST decalred MARTIAL LAW Mom. People are going to be really on edge. you can't trust anyone except family now!"
"Okay, fine let's go out the back door."
*Going out the back door, looking down the block, all the lights are off. As far as they can see, no lights whatsoever.*
"If we could get the garage door open, we could use your car and drive around and see how bad it is." the boy said bravely.
"The president said to stay indoors, though." the mom said quizzically.
"That's what he has to say to calm the sheep down. only the smart and crazy people will be on the streets. The smart ones will be trying to figure out what's going on, and the crazy people are going to try and buy stuff before the military gets to the stores. while the dumb people stay home and twiddle their thumbs." the boy says with an air of confiedince.
*mom laughs, to break the tension.*
"Hey mom if we had a ladder, i could get on the roof and see more around us."
"Oh-well."the Mom says in a apologetic way."
*SUDDENLY a Rapid knock at the door!*
"United States MILITARY! OPEN UP!" a loud authoritative voice commands.
The mom looks at the boy for guidance.
"I don't hear vehicles. Military don't turn off their cars for civillian jobs! they keep them running!" The boy says in a loud whisper.
"What do we do? What if they are the real military?"
"If they were real military, they'd KNOW OUR NAMES! Let's get out of here!" he says in a whisper rage.
*they go out the back door and jump the fence*
"Where do we go from here?" she asks desperate for a path and a reason.
"Well, first let's go see if they really were military, through the fence."
*peeking around the corner they see a blue pickup they have never seen before, and then a man holding a shotgun and grocery bags full of THEIR groceries.*
"He's taking our food!" I whisper angrily.
"Let's go stop him!" Mom whispers furiously.
"He also has a shotgun with a high capacity magazine."
"Oh. well that's no good." she says dejectedly.
*And thus they wandered the city as they were starving until a band of thieves came by and brutally murdered them for the clothes on their backs and the meat on their bones.*
Morals of the story:
1) Buy guns and lots of ammo.
2) Have a ladder with roof accecesibility.
3) You can never have too much food or water.
4) Never answer your door during a power outage or martial law.
(Military should know your name. Mil will always have thier vehicles running. Mil usally never knock, they shout with mega-phones from humvees or jeeps that have rifles on them.
5) Never leave via the front door.
6) Always have an escape plan.
7) Make sure you have an ability to open a closed garage door.
8) Trust only family and EXTREMELY trustful friends (5+ years)
