Sorry man - I know I'm galaxies beyond late! Somehow I've totally missed this one, but when I saw, you're still involved in TG, I thought I should answer...
For making it look big, there are two main-factors; first is the terrain itself (I do my terrains in GeoControl2, there you can adjust the size in meters/km);
second is the focal length of the camera (render-control-window) shortly: the shorter - the bigger (although there are side-effects)...
Probably this is too late, cause I've seen you're in TG2 now, but maybe it's of use nonetheless.

oh, i love the surface. and pov is very nice too.
well, since you want critique, i'll say that i don't really like how the horizon goes right through the middle of the image. if you'd tilt the camera or crop it, so that horizon goes through 1/3 of an image, scene would look much better. oh you can just cut off upper part, you don't have clouds there anyway.
another thing i'm not sure about, is the appearance of the big cloud. seems like it was rendered separately and then moved down, so it lost its distortion. might happen because of a big sky size and/or height, i think.
everything else is stunning. thumbs up mate.

Hey thanks for the great comment Ron! Will consider this horizon-thingie in the future more; if I'd crop of a part it wouldn't fit into the WP-gallery anymore and I always had an eye on that aspect, from the very beginning of my artistic life on since that's the only practical usability...
I'm not sure what you're meaning with the cloud and it's lost distortion; it has stayed in that place from the beginning. Maybe you mean that yellow glow? This came up when I did level-adjustment/color-correction for showing up the rays a bit more...

well, if you're so stubborn and want to have only wallpapers, then you might tilt the camera. well, for future.
for the cloud, no, it's not about glow. when you have a 3d image, things closer to you look bigger, so front part of the cloud should appear bigger and wider too. but the cloud looks flat, seems like that distortion was lost. well, hard to explain, and it's only a minor critique. you should consider yourself having a nice piece.

wow excellent quality, but what is that name?

LightDrop In reply to ArtisticLicenseNow [2007-08-11 18:04:52 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Janet! That name just popped up in my mind when I saw the finished render; 'Dolmen' -> [link] are also sometimes called 'Menhir' -> [link] or 'Cromlech' -> [link] in Celtic Language and refers to big standing stones - like those in Stonehenge - from the 'European Megalithic Culture' -> [link]
Somehow I thought that title fits the image - what do you think about?

oh then good title, you are also into Celtic stuff. So you were born in Germany, lived in US and went to worship at Stonehenge. just kidding!

...why lived in US?
And yes - Celtic stuff is awesome! I totally love the knot-patterns of them - there are so beautiful... I would love it to live in that time-periode - with a High King (or Aird Rig ) which isn't corrupt like all the politicians nowadays, a wealthy nature an understandable social-life where ppl are honest instead of polite and all that things connected with that time and culture...
I know, I'm a dreamer - what to do...

This never can be wrong; though I think the relevant parts in this connection are covered-up since a long time. Have you read about the Montauk-Project, Al Bielek and such?
