Here's a painting of Joseph and Emma Smith that I did for our church's directory. Joseph was the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.I respect these two so much! Their marriage was taxed by prejudice, harassment, miscarriages, people chasing them out of their homes, Joseph being constantly arrested under false charges, and many attempts on Joseph's life. Through it all, they stayed strong and very much in love.
I love my church. I love the examples of Joseph and Emma Smith, and all of the great people who followed them. I also really, really love the Book of Mormon, not only because it's a great story, but because it gives me a lot of strength and courage in my daily life. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I typed in Joseph Smith into the Deviantart search box. I'm glad I came across this. While I see that this is one of your older pieces, and by this point it might be a little irritating to be hearingΒ anotherΒ comment about that piece you drew years ago, I really do love this. Bottom line is I love this pic. Joseph was one lucky (nix that, blessed) man to have such an amazing wife. But, in all my Sunday School/Seminary/Institute classes, there was never any artistic side.
This, however, has captured the romance I believe they felt. Great job capturing this.

My heart just fills with so much emotion when I think of the sacrifices these two had to make to stand up for what they believed in. LDS or not, one would be lying to themselves to say they can't respect that commitment.
