Description
Story:
Lucina and Robin were on a mission to infiltrate the enemy base, however they got spotted after Robin was a bit too careless casting a spell. Now they were running as fast as they could out of the dungeon trying to escape.
“Someone stop them!” They heard guards call out from behind them. “Active the traps!”
Robin and Lucina only hoped that they could outrun whatever traps the guards had set. They turned a corner and continued sprinting but suddenly a bright light appeared in front of Lucina, stopping her in her path. She looked over her body, she felt normal. Then she looked back at Robin, who now towered over her. Something was wrong. Everything seemed to be getting bigger. Lucina was shrinking.
And just as suddenly as it started, it had stopped, and Lucina now was tiny, only a fraction of the height she previously stood.
“Lucina” Robin asked looking down at her. “Are you okay.”
“Um, yes Robin, I appear to be fine. I feel normal, just small. Can you um, pick me up. I don’t think I’ll be able to run out on my own.”
“Yes of course.” Robin reached down and gently picked up the girl who now fit in the palm of her hand. “I’m sorry Lucina” Robin said, “But I can’t think of a spell to fix you off the top of my head. We’ll have to wait until we get back to safety, then I can look.”
“Don’t worry about it, I’m fine. Just keep running, we’ve stopped long enough.”
Notes:
Yeah, story’s kind of lame for this one, but it gets the job done. I would have liked to have written a better one to go along with this, but I feel like the scenario doesn’t really lend itself well to an elongated story, unless I want to make up a bunch of stuff that isn’t visible in the animation. I think if I do more elaborate stories in the future I’ll have to write them first and then make an animation to go along with it, instead of doing what I do right now which is coming up with the scenario and the animation first, and then writing the story as sort of a tie in piece.
This was supposed to be Chrom and Lucina at first, but then I was having a hard time finding a model for him. I had assumed that he would be easy to find as he appeared in both Smash 5 and Fire Emblem Warriors, games people love to rip models from, but I kept coming up empty and was about to replace Lucina with a different character so it would make more sense. Then I saw a model for Robin while searching and figured that it would work too. I didn’t want to call Robin Lucina’s mother just in case people are sensitive about that, but that’s kind of the vibe I was going for.
Also can I just say that I’m really happy with both of those run cycles? They’re the first ones I’ve done where they don’t looks super floaty and horrible. I think Robin’s is a lot better than Lucina’s, however Robin’s robe doesn’t move at all because I’m lazy and scared of cloth bones. I tried to hide that a bit by having Robin behind Lucina from the camera’s point of view so she’s harder to see. Lucina’s looks pretty good, but the arms look a little weird to me.
The environment also has an interesting story because it’s the first one I made and boy does it show because it looks like trash. The floor is just a flat plain with a texture for floors I ripped from the internet, and the walls are the same. Or maybe I should say wall because I only made one. So I would have more camera freedom I didn’t bother making a wall behind where the camera is. Also in order to make the spotlight visible, I used a thin layer of fog to make it shine. I found it also helped add to the theme of them being in a sort of dark dungeon.
Anyways, I thought this was a pretty cool animation and its one of the ones I’m happier with. It has some problems, notably everything looking wonky when Robin picks up Lucina, and the part when they stop running needing some work, but I still think it came out well.
