Description
A few notes.+ The whole schmeer is inspired by the cover of Ray Lamontagne's Trouble, which is a great album, by the way, and which is why Sarah has no eyes. She's too pretty to blindfold, so I just blinded her. Just for the sake of metaphor, of course.
+ My shadows and shit are all willy-nilly because it's just a sketch and I save the good skills for the final minutes.
+ Jareth's coat is based off that kickass bomb-leather number in roughly the second act of Labyrinth, but I was working from memory and I jacked it all up, and then I decided I didn't care because I like the teeny-weeny bird skull buttons.
+ Yes, he is secreting an apple in his left hand.
+ I'm not making his package any bigger, so QUIT ASKING, JARETH. I don't care how big it is, leave me alone. Crazy goblin.
My sister and I agreed that Jareth reminds us heavily of the devil in our favorite mythology of him–––lonely, angry, arrogant, a bully. When he meets Sarah, who defies and rejects him, he tries to scare and trick her, and then to tempt her with false treasures. He represents every sin and she resists in favor of the best thing in the world: family love. Is Jareth too far gone to have any concept of real love? Does he just want her, like a toy?
Most women, I'm told, imagine the devil as a handsome, charming man. It speaks to our weakness and to our secret belief that we–––that love–––can fix and change anything.
You know, lookin' at this now, I should have given him some horns. I think I will. He would wear them well.

I love this drawing! The look on Sarah's face is just priceless. And Jareth is indeed both a devil, handsome and a charming man. I really think he would be a devil on the dancefloor!
A wonderful idea and an amazing drawing!

FYI : I've been playing the song on repeat half a hundred times, and can't bring myself to remove this from my DevWatch page.
The poses, and the portraits... everything about this is so inspired and so RIGHT - gah... I lust after your lines.
Mad Skillz, I say.

*^_^*! Where did this come from?
I have such a huge admiration for your work that compliments like that are sort of humiliating (you know, amid all the flattery and LOVE). I feel so unworthy. But thank you.
P.S. Which song are you playing on repeat? "Devil's Dancefloor" or "Man In The Long Black Coat"?

I agree; so many young women have been tricked by that sneaky sweet sugary voice, telling them love is the key to anything as a cure and that it can change everything and all that shit. Of course part of it IS true; any powerfull emotion can be a key, a cure and it can make big changes. But where does it say those things can only happen for good? Love can be a key to set you free from the authority of your parents.. it can cure you from thinking your whole life you´re just meaningless piece of shit.. But changes.. they always hurt first, because they´re so big and when you get something, you have to give up on something else quite valuable to you And yeah, Im speaking from experience. Love hurts more than the opposite. Maybe that´s the reason why some say it´s more powerfull than anger- the more you fight for it, the more it stabs your heart. And no one has to say a word.

It's sounds like you've had some bad experiences. Take it from someone who's been heartbroken and who is also really happy and contented; love is the best thing there is about life. Don't let your opinions be soured.

As a child I remember being made extremely uncomfortable by his package. We don't prominently display our private bits in my family. And at the same time it was totally fascinating. You wanted to look but you didn't, you know? Ever since then I've had a giddy, embarrassing relationship with the male Batch.

(Oh and Jareth came to my window saying he had given up on you and wanted me to ask you to make his package bigger. He gave me a crystal ball. I couldn't say no. lol)

! Dammit! Now he's going after the innocent? No dice, Jareth! I told you when I whacked you with my oatmeal spoon.
You realize, of course, that he'll come back for his crystal after you fail. And I say you don't give it up. ^_~ Make him work for it.
I wasn't planning on coloring this, actually, mostly because I'm lazy. Some very talented people have been taking cracks at coloring my lines, tho, which is fanTAStic.

He came back to retract is gift but I sold it. haha I think he was mad. Mumbled something about, "not growing on trees." I got a pretty penny for it at the fortune tellers, too. He said I was wasting his time and stormed off the balcony. There was glitter everywhere.
haha You should make a Labyrinth coloring book. I would buy that. You'd have to ask Jareth first though.

I find your style amazing. It's also so interesting to me how you have the two mirroring each other in pose, as if to convey how they are each not only a figure of opposition but that they oppose each other as equals. But i digress, stunning form and amazing attention to detail. I love this piece to the tenth power! Thank you creating it!
