Description
So I broke down and watched Legend, and that same night had a vividly romantic dream about Tim Curry as Darkness. As you do. I can't be the only good girl who has a crush on the devil, can I?I didn't care for the movie aside from Darkness, and was especially put off by the character Lily, so I wondered who would be appropriate to pair with His Evilness. Saint Agape (of Barbucci & Canepa's Sky Doll) just kind of inserted herself, and she's perfect. She's an embodiment of goodness and sacrifice, of sensuality and a pure heart -- and they still have things in common. If Darkness is going to fall in love with someone, I want it to cripple him. I want him to be completely defeated by her. I want him to give in. That's what good love does to you.
I would almost guarantee that these two have never been drawn on the same paper together. I also almost guarantee (less confidently) that this is the last time I'll be drawing Darkness. But I said that about Bowie, so. You never know.

Who hasn't had a fabulously indulgent (if not a little unsettling) dream about Tim Curry.
Frank n Furter is my forbidden fruit of choice, but his character Wadsworth (lol) from Clue keeps him in check.

I happen to love Legend, and also not like Lily. But she's perfect for poor simple Jack, dontcha think? It's not like he has anything else going on for him, besides a creepy cross-eyed pixie...lol, I kid. I love this photo, his chin is ridiculous, so are his horns, yet he is such a great character. Does Tim Curry deny this role as well?

The only one I've heard is that he denies being in Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is understandable lol.

I don't think it was Tim Curry who denied being part of Rocky Horror... I'm pretty sure it was Peter Hinwood, the guy who actually played Rocky. Afterall, Tim Curry has done reunion shows and such.

Darkness is so recognizable, even from the thumbnail view of this. I really like the concept of someone evil falling for someone so pure, and vice versa -- opposites can make some of the loveliest and most tragic pairs. This rather brings the tale of Persephone and Hades to mind, as well. :]

Beautiful composition and linework! The expressions are perfect as well.
I always thought he was such a sympathetic character - there are a lot of aspects of even the purest love that are unholy and kind of creepy and possessive. I feel like he personifies that. Plus, he's better than Jack and his ever-present pasty thighs any day ^_^

And who was it who said that love is jealous and greedy and possessive? True that.

Oh, the Dark One has already made a couple appearances in GND! A marvelous mirror-entry, and a seduction-play for Sarah. Didn't sit too well with Jareth, you can imagine...

I meant with Agape.
Actually, Jareth should consider that. It would get Darkness off Sarah's back.

Ha ha, I think Sky Doll would be a little too obscure, even for GND. ;D Doesn't quite fit the fantasy-glam realm, either.

Sorry... but I can only see Tim Curry in drag. It's all right though... the other night I had a dream about making babies out of pancake batter, then giving them a nap in the microwave... I suppose Tim Curry as "Darkness" is rather normal in comparison.

ZaneSama In reply to ??? [2008-12-11 02:56:26 +0000 UTC]
That is a very bizarre, but very sweet and fitting couple. That's only based on the twinkly I know of Darkness though, as I've never seen his movie.
Doesn't Agape have a tail though? I don't think you see it, what with the robes, but one would assume she does, given every other member of her race has one. Or are you depicting her as more human?
π: 0 β©: 1
lily-fox In reply to ZaneSama [2008-12-11 03:01:09 +0000 UTC]
She totally does have a tail, I was just hoping no one would notice it missing. ;D I thought, you know, for most people who've never seen Sky Doll, that a random tail would look absurd. But then, you know, she's standing between a pair of giant horns...

I always figured Satan for a pedophile. Lol, Just kiddin. This is an amazing piece of art, and Legend is one of my favorite movies of all time. I use to draw the characters from the movie when I was in the third and fourth grade. Great stuff.
Why were you put off by Lilly though, I thought her character was essential to the movie.
Awesome work regardless.

lily-fox In reply to G-flux [2008-12-11 03:02:45 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I mean, her character was essential -- there wouldn't've been a story without her -- but I didn't like her character at all. I thought she was childish and selfish, with no consistency. But I kind of felt that way about the whole flick.

G-flux In reply to lily-fox [2008-12-11 03:47:58 +0000 UTC]
I don't know anything about the female character you chose to feature in that amazing piece of artwork you rendered there. Who is she? Every word you used to describe Lilly though fwas in a sense pure, not perfect but innocently pure. I think she was suppose to be like a child. She was wild, naive, and free, which is why she kept going into the forest to meet jack rather than residing in the kingdom. Essentially Legend was just Ridley Scotts telling of the Adam and Eve story. Their naivete, curiosity and innocence is ultimately what brings death and darkness into the world.
So you didn't like that scene when Lilly gets up to go touch the unicorn and Jack yells for her to stop, and she turns around with that exuberant expression, like she just couldn't help herself much like a child. I thought some of the acting and direction in the movie was superb.
And what about mucklebones the old witch in the swamp. She was awesome. In my humble opinion they haven't' really matched what they can do with some of the more advanced animitronics even with all this cg stuff. Except for maybe gollum in Lord of the Rings. In many ways I liked mucklebones's character more than Darkness. I'd have to agree with you though. Tim Curry stole the show.

For real? Like ninety seconds of rubber and slime and yet another screeching, creaky voice, you liked better than all of Curry's swagger and power and purr? I mean, to each their own...
