Description I started this the same time I started "The Kite Flyer". But lost interest. I was not sure I liked the mountain pathway, but that was how I envisioned it. I went to finish it a few times, but lost interest. Found it in the back of my closet not to long ago, and made myself finally paint in the hummingbird. So there you have it.... Inherited Memory. The title came from lyrics in a Chemical Brothers song I liked.

I agree with you. Yea, a bit more mellow.

I stumbled across this painting a few years ago in a "post your favorite paintings" in some thread somewhere. I have always loved this painting. It took some time for me to decipher your signature to see who the artist was

Your works are very inspiring and I love your mountain path, in spite of your lack of interest. Thank you for sharing this with the world. Without this turning into a love letter, let me just say that I can only hope to come close to your talent some day.

(p.s.- I LOVE humming birds and this one looks amazing.)

Amazing...
Truly amazing...
I really wish I could leave a more thoughtful comment, but my head is in a bit of a fog right now, I feel like im in the middle of some strange sort of breakthrough, but I've got to run really fast or it might get away...
I promise to come back and look a little deeper, but I must ask a dreadful technical question,...
being that the canvas is so large, did you take a photo? or have you miraculously come across an amazingly large scanner?
Silly question, but I just had to ask..>w<

Thank you very much.

After I finish a painting I take it to a professional photographer to get a high pixel image in case I need one for printing or hopefully one day I will do a book.

I think it`s beautiful! The contrast of the little hummingbird and the bells and the desolated rocky place is wonderful. You`re really drawn to the friendly green scene in the back.

...ps ----- this painting strikes me as more 'surreal' than fantasy - esp with the title .....but who am I to quibble?

Yea, I put my painting in the "fantasy" section till just recently. I guess I am a mix of that and surreal.

Wow, what beautiful imagery. The hummingbird adds such a lovely touch, carrying that string of bells. I also like the bamboo sticks, though I wonder how they balance there on those barks of wood. A beautiful painting nonetheless.

Osa-Art-Farm [2007-04-25 14:16:40 +0000 UTC]

It really doesn't get any better than this. The closse-up detail of the bamboo, the crooked gates, the bells on the bird and the unique and unexpected door to ______?

What makes this so wonderful is that the focus is not on the door. It's really on a bird just passing by. The door is a small detail compaired to the rest, but in an entirely different type of color/style. You are forced to peer closer for a better look and then are amazed. Seeing, you start to think; can there be a place like this? What's it like beyond? Would I step in, seeing there was no ground outside of the door...only certain death?
Definately not a 'one glimpse - it's pretty' painting.

Wow, what a thoughtful comment. I am horrible with words and you worded that just what I wanted the painting to portray. That was so kind of you. Funny. I just sold that painting from someone who was brousing through DA. All the time and effort here has paid off.

I am very grateful for you nice words! - Linda

i can't believe i didnt comment on this one! it's fantastic (of course) and like the rest, i think it's terrific that you were able to bring yourself to finish it. it's something to be proud of, when you are able to complete a piece although you have lost interest in it. i enjoy the colours that you have depicted for this piece. so surreal, fantastical. and the title is really stimulating! i've always thought that every painting or a piece of art is like a memory, the process and the evocation of certain emotions. if this is your inherited memory, it's adorable haha!

you have quite an intense perspective with this piece. i adore the way you have captivated me with this concept - the you travel on this path to hopefully reach a new world... a new destiny. pretty amazing.

the colours here are pretty well done - they work so well together. the bird and the stone and the clouds.. everything seems to be made perfectly for this scene. and then when the eye comes across the door it is surprised to see that you have sparked some white and snow in there. you blend so perfectly with your oil. very lovely.
