Description
“The Smog Monster.”--
From beyond the stars came the new threat to mankind. A microscopic alien with the power to grow by assimilating toxic substances had landed on earth from a meteorite. It landed in the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately it was the time of the early 1970’s when the Oceans of the world were littered with Garbage. The toxic pollution in the sea was the perfect source for the growth of the alien creature.
Once it got big enough, the alien creature began to multiply by breaking apart and forming more creatures. They continued feeding on the garbage and grew into larger tadpole like creatures. And worst of all, they were all headed toward Japan. They became large enough to destroy ships. Soon their presence in the ocean was discovered by Dr. Yano and his son Ken. But Yano is injured during his scuba dive while looking for the creature by the alien’s acid.
Ken took to calling the creature Hedorah. They believed that Hedorah was feeding on the pollution in the sea and was growing larger. However, once the garbage in the ocean ran out, they’d try to get the pollution on land. The Hedorah tadpoles banded together to form a large land-crawling creature that resembled a large lizard. It caused a bit of havoc and began absorbing the black smog from the factories in the industrial area. They speculated that if Hedorah kept feeding on Smog, he’d get stronger and grow larger. How could any weapon stop a monster that absorbed pollution?
There was only one force on earth that everyone knew could stop Hedorah. Godzilla! The children of the earth, specifically Ken knew that Godzilla would be angered by the pollution in the sea. Godzilla would do something about it! It was mankind’s test to see if the newer and gentler Godzilla was still ferocious enough to save the planet. And sure enough, Mankind’s Hero Appeared! Godzilla engaged Hedorah on land. It was an easy fight though; Godzilla was able to burn the living blob with his fire and throw the creature back into the ocean.
However, Dr. Yano predicted that the creature would use the pollution in the air as a means for propulsion to fly. Sure enough, Hedorah mutated into a large, fossil shaped saucer. Unfortunately, at the same time, another land Hedorah attacked the city. This proved that it was possible for there to be more than one giant Hedorah. And Godzilla could only handle one at a time. Godzilla tried his best to fight off the flying Hedorah, but he couldn’t land an attack on the creature. The gas that Hedorah sprayed into the air was strong enough to turn people to bones. And if Godzilla couldn’t stop it, then all hope was lost.
In weeks, Hedorah would overrun all of Japan. In months; all of Asia. In a year, the entire world would be a breeding ground for the toxic creatures. Armageddon was inevitable. It was decided by many people of Japan that since they were about to die anyway, they would go up to Mt. Fuji and have the party of a lifetime. However, the scientists speculated that if the two large Hedorahs combined together then the final result would be a monster larger than Godzilla! But they also remembered that Hedorah’s sludge-like body solidified after shot with Godzilla’s fire.
They tried to simulate the extreme heat of Godzilla’s fire to solidify Hedorah and possibly kill it. They built these two giant lightning generators as a trap for the giant monster. Soon, a 600ft bipedal Hedorah appeared and attacked the partygoers. After spitting their acid sludge on them, Hedorah was attacked. Godzilla appeared and fought with the giant blob. It seemed Godzilla tried to move the Smog Monster towards the trap. But Hedorah’s new power to shoot laser beams proved to be a danger for Godzilla. And even worse, Hedorah could transform his body back into his flying form!
Godzilla was able to dodge the flying form and the lasers and attacked. However, the tied turned when Hedorah dropped the Monster King into a large ditch and dumped its vile sludge on him. The King was down. But as luck would have it, Hedorah wondered to the trap by himself. However, the electric current wasn’t set up just yet and there wasn’t enough power to create the lightning to fry Hedorah. It seemed like the trap wouldn’t work and Hedorah couldn’t be stopped…if it wasn’t for a quick blast of Godzilla’s atomic breath. The atomic energy gave the trap enough power to shoot lightning at Hedorah. After a while of being zapped with intense heat, Hedorah eventually went down. Godzilla then drove his fists into the blob and pulled out two white orbs. As it turned out, those orbs were actually egg sacks containing thousands of tiny Hedorahs. Godzilla promptly fried them with the lightning trap.
However, when Godzilla tried to finish off Hedorah’s toxic body for good, a smaller flying Hedorah shot out from the larger creature’s carcass. The flying Hedorah tried to escape, and if it did, it would just feed and get bigger and this whole mess would start over. But Godzilla wasn’t about to let that happen. Though it did seem hopeless to all of the human spectators, Godzilla did something impossible, incredible and truly amazing. Turning around and shooting enough radioactive fire on the ground, Godzilla’s body lifted off the ground. Then Godzilla’s fire was used as a means of propulsion through the sky. Godzilla was FLYING!!!
All of the people agreed that watching this was ‘Something you don’t see everyday.’ To this day, it is the only time when Godzilla has done something like this. Anyway, Godzilla landed his entire body on the flying Hedorah and threw it back to the trap. A final zap later and Hedorah was completely dead. Godzilla then stared at a piece of Hedorah that he had torn from the creature’s body, and looked as if he was thinking. At that moment, something changed in Godzilla forever. Then, while the crowd of people sang the song ‘Save the Earth’ composed for this situation, Godzilla tore Hedorah’s carcass apart and threw the pieces away. He then trampled it into the dust.. Godzilla had done it! Godzilla had saved the Earth!!!
Some people speculated that Godzilla’s violent treatment of Hedorah’s body was his way of ripping his own tortured past out of himself. It was to symbolize that he had definitely changed Godzilla went back to Monster Island afterwards. All was peaceful and quiet for a time after the Hedorah incident. However, the ever looming threat of another Hedorah was always out there…Another creature was spotted near Africa but it remained quiet for decades. A third was discovered near Argentina in 2007. This one was different, dubbed Deathla. So far, Godzilla has yet to have an encounter with this creature.
As for Mankind’s opinion of Godzilla, it was still sketchy. It appeared to many that Godzilla wasn’t acting on behalf of Mankind but just trying to save the environment. However, after the next event, it was no secret that Godzilla was fighting for the good of mankind.
Be here for another invasion from the stars, one that nearly cost Godzilla his life.

Something that You Don't see Everyday. I could've based this picture on one of the many fights that occurred in this movie, but I would never forgive myself if I didn't base this Godzilla Month off of the legendary Flying scene.
Well...that's all I have to say about that.
Day 11 of Godzilla Month. 17 days left.
142.
