Description When I first played Fortress I decided to write up a kind of blog thing, akin to Livin' In Oblivion (google it) to see how long it actually takes to improve in a game that technically has no learning curve whatsoever. It was to be called ' Project Ubermensch' and it was dropped spectacularly quickly. I picked it back up during Valve's free play weekend, the result is seven weird little reports on one hopeless Medic-player's spectacularly awful missions, here reaching a spectacular denouement.
I'm trying to be funny in them, so watch out for that.

-----

Play 7:
aka That one Which was not an Utter Failure, aka The Last Log for Now. There doesn't seem to have been any progression in skill on my part through this task, but then I was never good at hurting other people, or helping them in any way. I'm beige on the scale of killer instinct.
And there's a finite number of ways to say 'I went to the other side of the map and got killed by a Pyro' in an entertaining manner.
But it was fun, apart from the unending ordeals.

And to finish, a poem:
Doctor_Foster
Loaded cp_Gloucester
In for a whole world of pain.
He stepped in a lag spot
Not to mention he got shot
And never went there again.

OH MY WORD. THE FIRST PAGE IS A REFRENCE TO HITCHIKERS GUIDE, ISNT IT?

This is a lovely little journal! You write from the Medic's POV so well, you got that condescendingly scientific tone down perfectly. And the old book page background and little sketches add a perfectly authentic touch. I'd kinda like to see these from other classes POV's too! ^_^

I hate being both the first guy to die and the last guy to die right before a victory.

'Respawn in 3... 2... 1- VICTORY! Wait for next round to respawn.'

And off goes my ungrateful team, torching the helpless enemies that slaughtered us by the dozen mere minutes ago...

*finally done reading all of these* reading stuff like this makes me so glad I'm not a support class player at all XD I tries Medic for about five minutes and...it was really horrible.

(though as someone who is heavily biased towards playing as Scout, I spend a lot of time waiting for sentries to go down, I also know the pain of low health+Pyros. Especially low health+Pyros+thin hallways+dead ends)

Bahaha, wonderful!

I must admit, I don't seem to have the same problems with pyros as you seem to, unless it's a team which seems to consist of pyros. There may only be two or three on the opposing team, but dang it, it seems like they're only pyro!

I think the multiple-charring incident was a fluke, but I do tend to notice Pyro encounters more than others because I never escape them alive.

Indeed. I can't count the amount of times I've died just before I've reached a health pack, even with the medipack giving me the odd health D:

I play medic alot, and I mean ALOT, so medics are natural prey to pyro's like spy's are right? or is it we just end up getting killed by pyro's for the most part

Liquidsilk In reply to Fudoko0114 [2009-02-13 10:35:05 +0000 UTC]

I'd say everyone gets killed by Pyros for the most part, and statistically Medics get killed more per match because they have the least health.
Still, whenever there's a Pyro around they do seem to make a beeline straight for me, but I'm probably paranoid by this point.

Good point, but I'm still spy paranoid

Well, playing a Medic is a lot like giving birth; it's lengthy, tiring annd excruciatingly painful, but the end result generally makes you forget how horrible it was, and gets you wanting to do it all over again.
Of course, sometimes it doesn't, and then you're just screwed.

Okay, I didn't want to comment on any of these until I could sit down and read them all through properly like a trooper.
So I finally did just now.

Firstly, lols were had.

Secondly, I'm stealing the textures you used (thanks for the link!) for some later date, because they're amazing.

The journal format is great, with all its little doodles and phone numbers and tic-tact-toe games. Your writing is smart and all too easy to relate to in-game. Smart and funny. I couldn't help but read along outloud in the angriest german accent I could manage. There were a couple of other fandom jokes scattered through there I think I caught, but now they've slipped my mind.
Anyway.
Pucking Fyros.
And bonus points that your last image is Medic standing in the International Pose of Applause. You stand like that, back straight, hand up, and people just have to start clapping.

All in all? Good work, RED Scumbag. Good work. :applause:

You're welcome, you filthy Blueguard you.

And someone desperately needs to make 'roject Ubermensch; the audio podcasts', available to everyone but Pyros. Damn Pyros.
