Description I wrote a new tutorial about HTML uses on dA. I hope this tutorial will be, as the title says, a comprehensive tutorial that covers just about all of the bases. In addition to the information I covered in the old tutorial, I added superscripts and subscripts, striking out text, targeting a link into a new window, and creating a textual menu bar using links. I added a brief introduction to the general format of HTML coding on dA instead of jumping right into the bold, italics, and underline codes. I reduced the number of screenshots to facilitate locating the examples you need, when you need them. I added a bit more depth to understanding how links work instead of just writing the code and saying, "Insert your info here." I addressed some troubleshooting aspects of dA HTML and added tips and hints drawn from questions other dA users had posted on the old tutorial. I utilized clear contrast between the foreground and background, legible text, a navigable system of organization, and facetious pretentions of high class. It is my hope that you will find this tutorial just as helpful as the original.

Please download for optimal legibility.

lisemily In reply to Loryska [2011-02-27 00:30:26 +0000 UTC]

To post the avatar, you use the formula :iconYADDAYADDABANGBANG: You replace the capital letters with the account name whose avatar you want to have displayed, and if the account exists, the icon will display. Thus , and .

I know you find it intensely inelegant, but is there any way to strike through text in comments?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lisemily In reply to Lightning123698745 [2010-10-11 14:18:30 +0000 UTC]

There didn't used to be, but now, if you just use the tags as you would in a journal, you csn put strike-through text in comments. :]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Lightning123698745 In reply to lisemily [2010-10-12 01:08:56 +0000 UTC]

You can also shorten the tags to just an s instead or strike. Thank you for your help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

lisemily In reply to lisemily [2010-10-11 14:19:57 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, that should be- if you just use the < strike > tags (without the spaces) it'll work just fine in comments. :]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lisemily In reply to kiminley [2010-09-12 21:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Have you seen that done on dA, specifically? Because I know in the wild, you can use the tags to adjust font size relatively, but to my knowledge that function isn't supported on dA. However, I know there have been some changes to dA HTML recently so it may be a new function. I'll have to look into it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kiminley In reply to lisemily [2010-09-12 21:46:43 +0000 UTC]

i've actually seen it done a pretty long time ago on here... hm.

i see it a lot in artist comments. maybe i'll try that and see if it works

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lisemily In reply to kiminley [2010-09-12 21:52:47 +0000 UTC]

Guess I should have said too, the X in the code should be a number. And if you want the font smaller, substitute a - for the +.

There are also some plz accounts that will let you spell things out, if the font tag doesn't work, you could try browsing a plz directory and seeing if there's something like what you've seen.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lisemily In reply to DarkTheUmbreon100 [2010-09-03 13:14:53 +0000 UTC]

Trial and error. It's basically all derived from regular HTML which I know, so it was just a matter of figuring out what worked where and what didn't.

Of course, now dA has gone and changed it again. For instance, you can now use the strike through code in comments. Like so.

This was very helpful ! Thanks!

Also, something I've found out with links. If you paste the link in and then space and then put words/phrase/whatever next to it in parenthesis, it will name the link. Like that code does up there, but not so, eh...complex.

Oh wow this is really helpful.

I have a question. How do you make the Journal Format Page. I know that they have an example in the "DA Help" but I don't really understand, could you help me a bit?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lisemily In reply to Firewhisky-Black [2010-06-20 20:19:55 +0000 UTC]

I am so glad you found this helpful!

However, I have a confession: I am not quite sure how the journal formatting stuff works either. Travesty, I know! As usual, dA has its own style of CSS that I have not yet gotten around to figuring out. Eventually, when I do, I will make a tutorial for it though. Hopefully before the summer's out, though that's no guarantee. I said the same thing about spring break, too. Sorry I'm not being very helpful!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firewhisky-Black In reply to lisemily [2010-06-21 16:13:55 +0000 UTC]

No it's fine, I asked for help from the DA people and hopefully they'll be able to help. I don't think I'll understand what they are saying. If I don't I'll pass what they said to you and you could help me translate it.

Yeah, just got a messege back from them. Why are they so unhelpful? It's so frustrating. Gah!!! Apperently there's a forum for it, but I don't like informitive forums mostly they turn out to be unhelpful.
